Signs and symptoms of depression include:
Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. A bleak outlook?nothing will ever get better and there?s nothing you can do to improve your situation.
Loss of interest in daily activities. No interest in former hobbies, pastimes, social activities, or sex. You?ve lost your ability to feel joy and pleasure.
Appetite or weight changes. Significant weight loss or weight gain?a change of more than 5% of body weight in a month.
Sleep changes. Either insomnia, especially waking in the early hours of the morning, or oversleeping (also known as hypersomnia).
Anger or irritability. Feeling agitated, restless, or even violent. Your tolerance level is low, your temper short, and everything and everyone gets on your nerves.
Loss of energy. Feeling fatigued, sluggish, and physically drained. Your whole body may feel heavy, and even small tasks are exhausting or take longer to complete.
Self-loathing. Strong feelings of worthlessness or guilt. You harshly criticize yourself for perceived faults and mistakes.
Reckless behavior. You engage in escapist behavior such as substance abuse, compulsive gambling, reckless driving, or dangerous sports.
Concentration problems. Trouble focusing, making decisions, or remembering things.

Your situation does not sound as happy as it should be and only you can make changes to improve things. Clear signs of depression are : withdrawing from the usual activities, sleeping difficulty (insomnia / and or / wanting to sleep all the time, thoughts of suicide (a way out of troubles / feelings), experience of less energy for tasks. Many folk with depression tend to lock themselves into their homelife and avoid personal care (showering, eating, etc.), but this is not always the case, as many people seem to function normally within their society and battle things out alone, hiding what they believe is their "embarressment". Luckily, most societies are bringing depression out the closet and forming groups to deal with this problem, which is the fastest growing health problem in western society. The main thing here is being honest with yourself as far as you can and be open to the idea of group discussions (there is quite a lot around and you can also help others). Sounds like, also, that you may be working too much .. is there a way for you to cut down and take the time out to replenish your energy / emotional supplies ?? We all need this at times !!! All the very best.

You need a hobby, or a pet, or a fish tank.
Do what I did, spend a bunch of money on the BEST home theater you can afford. Spend the most on the speakers(Klipsch, PSB, SVS, HSU, Outlaw Audio, Gallo). Then get a sweet sub(SVS, HSU, REL, Sunfire). Then get yourself the biggest TV you can afford(55" or bigger). Next, get a home theater reciever(Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Outlaw). Finish with a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player and BAM, you'll never want to leave the house!!!!

There are no clear signs of depression. With each person is different. I believe you should know if you are depressed by the way you used to act and the way you act now. Talk to someone close to you in order to support you.

Yes I would say you are depressed. But we in this forum can't do much for you, other than to tell you to go to the pdoc, and get some meds. I too have had thoughts of suicide in the past, but it isn't an option for me now. I am bipolar and am on meds for the depression, as well as the mania. But YOU NEED TO GET HELP from a professional. PLEASE!

I don't know if this is depression and I can only suggest that you go and visit your family doctor and ask to see a psychiatrist or a psychologist. I know it sounds harsh but they are the only ones who can do the proper screening.
If you are thinking about suicide, then you need to go and see your family doctor sooner rather than later.
