When you are sitting as your computer there are lots of muscles at work not just your arms and hands. Your lower back if not supported, upper back supported or not, shoulders, and neck are all being taxed. The same muscles when tighter than they should be can put pressure on nerves that cause different levels of pain (including tingling and pins and needles). Sometimes (and it is smart to start here) it is aggravated by a misaligned skeletal structure, which a chiropractor can help with not just alignment but shrinking muscle damage that may exist by using ultrasound. The muscles themselves (due to any number of factors) have knots called trigger points that need to be relaxed. And they can be found as far away from your hands as your lower back. So a next good step is to work with a massage therapist. I would recommend doing this until the pain that you are feeling now and any from reaching the sore hand over onto the opposite shoulder are gone.
Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas (natural muscle relaxers) daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.
Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.
The cure - start with a professional massage, (if this does not do it you probably need a chiropractor as well) you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. Press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

Definately sounds to me like carpal tunnel syndrome. I used to suffer from tenosynovitus (later diagnosed as RSI - Repetitive Strain Injury). That was mainly through typing day in day out but then 3yr ago I was on crutches for 18months which caused the nerves to trap in my wrists. I would wake up in the middle of the night with pins and needles or even holding the telephone for 5mins my hands would go numb. I should visit your GP, he/she will probably send you for blood tests (to rule out vitamin deficiency and check that it is nothing more severe than CTS. I had an operation on both my wrists last year and they have been gret since. The op was painful (local anesthetic) and uncomfortable for a few days but the outcome was amizing and would recommend to anyone. Sometimes dr's will only operate on one hand at a time, but I had both done. Good luck but definately go see your GP.

Go see the doctor as you may have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. This is where the median nerve that passes throught the carpal tunnel in the wrist becomes traped or compressed causeing a loss of feeling, pins and needles and pain.
You could also have 'Tennis Elbow'. Both of these are common for offive workers and people who use computers often.
Any loss of sensation, anyware in the body, that continues for a long period of time needs to be investigated asap as it may indicate some significant cause.

It sounds like you may have carpel tunnel syndrome...I get it quite alot it is very annoying and can be very painfull.You should see your GP.You will either need to just strap it up or you may need a very small operation.It is caused by a sticky nerve..I got it 1st when I had an operation on my right shoulder and got carpel tunnel in my left hand due to the over use when my arm was in a sling

i would go to the dr if i where you. dontwant to scare youbut have worked alot with people who have had strokes and they say that looking back there were tell tale signs prior to the actual stroke and pins and needles was one of those signs. Because they are not painful you tend to ignore them but remember your body is a clever piece of machinery and all things odd usually mean something.

It could be paraesthesia. I would get this checked out with a doctor. It may be nothing, but the fact that you have had it for 10 days does mean that you need to get it checked, even if it is just to put your mind at rest. Good luck.

Take care where you rest your left arm when on the computer......Just on the inside of your elbow are the nerves fairly close to the surface..Resting on this point can cause this........Also slight Osteo Arthritis in the joint can irritate the nerve and cause the same.........I have this all the time, but then I'm fairly old........I don't know how old you are......Check with your doc, just to be sure..........

Sounds like it could be a circulation problem. Either that or a pinched nerve. Get it checked out, that's always safest.

Cardiac problems ahead I'm afraid. Might just be circulation and easily treated but go get it checked out. Cut down beer / fags / donuts.
