My Mom is Catholic and my Dad is Lutheran, and ever since I was young I have been going to both a Lutheran church and a Catholic church. I love both denominantions and don't want to chose one for many reasons, such as insulting one of my parents, so...

Is it possible to have two denominantions ?
Why or Why not ?

Thank you for your help :)

When this happens, you make a new denomination.

Exactly why there are thousands of them now.

If I were still a Christian and in your position, I would keep looking for the denomination that seems most true to you rather than the one you like the best.

No, you cannot be both Lutheran and Catholic. There are some significant differences between the two churches that you need to research, study, and pray about.

Do not think of this as being insulting to one of your parents. By trying to come up with your own faith that is a compromise between the Lutheran and catholic faith, you are denying BOTH of them.

Stusy, research, talk to ministers and pray. Then decide which way of life holds the truth.

I do not know much about the Lutheran faith, but I will answer any questions I can on the catholic faith.

You can go to as many churches and religions as you want. However, when you attend one regularly or are actually a member of a church that means you believe and support everything that church does. So...the problem lies where they have conflicting beliefs. It can't be hot and cold at the same time. And there ARE conflicting beliefs, or they wouldn't be two different denominations. Luther left the Catholic church because of its beliefs.

Also, you don't want to be supporting the wrong religion (Babylon the Great). The bible says if you do, you may get a share of her plagues. This is why it's so important to choose the right religion. Now, I'm not going to tell you my religion is right...even though I know it is. :-) You must decide for yourself which one is right. To do so, you must compare ALL teachings (and actions of the church, as well) with what the Bible teaches. To do THAT...you must know your bible. To know your bible....yep...ya gotta read it. Every day. Study it. Meditate on it. Pray.

The Catholic Church and the Lutheran Church are so closely related. Martin Luther didn't believe everything that the Catholic church taught thus the 96 thesis. I have to tell you that Jesus is the only way. He is the Way the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except by Him. Find a Bible believing church. When it comes right down to it you have to have your own walk with Jesus. Your mothers wont get you to heaven your fathers either.

If I compare Christanity to music, the message of Christanity is like the melody, and denominations are like the harmony. The harmony without the melody sounds bad, but the melody can stand alone very well.

Now if I give the melody to 100 different composers and ask the to provide the hamony, they would produce 100 different hamonies.

I have seven brothers and sisters and two daughters. In all, we attend 7 different denominations. Yet we are all close.

We have moved rather extensively and have worshipped with 8 different denominations.

I believe that denominations are also like a tapestry. As the threads of different colours are interwoven, the tapestry becomes rich, it is the same with denominations.

Well,I guess you mean attending two different churches. Lutherans would not have a problem with you attending another church on other days, but I'm not sure what the Catholics would think of attending another denomination's church.Hopefully someone more knowledgable will come along and help :)

Liz: The Christian relationship is based upon spirituality - not denomination. Your relationship with Jesus is dependent upon you not which church you attend (although going to a church is important for learning about Him). God loves you for who you are - not for what you do or don't do.
Focus on quality of relationship with Jesus Christ and the rest will fall into place . . . . More Jesus - Less Religion !!!

What matters most is your personal relationship with Jesus.
I don't think it matters what church you go to when you worship God. Go where your heart leads you and pray for guidance, God will lead you where you need to be.
Gods word revolves around love and everyone should have there own personal relationship with him.
My wife was raised Catholic and I was raised Baptist we go to a non denomination Church. God Say's when you get married your body is not your own any longer but mine is hers and hers is mine, so we found common ground.

All christian denominations have a common belief & that is Jesus Christ and this the most important among all other teachings. As long as you live according to the teachings of JC, that is okay. It is not religion that saves but the conviction to do good, give love to others.

According to the Word of God, it is totally permissible for all believers to pray directly to Him; He promises to not only hear our prayers; but will answer them.

Also according to Him and His precious Word, we can confess our sins directly to Him, God promises that He will hear them and grant us forgivness; if we wholeheartily repent.

But the absolute important thing to remember, is to have a relationship with God and your Savior Jesus Christ, not just follow customs or traditions of a certain denomination.

A denomination does not and will not grant eternal life, only by having a deep true and total relationship with God and Jesus Christ; will one experience all that the Kingdom of God offers His Children.
