a pirated copy of norton 2006 was working very fine and was taking updates etc, till it was uninstalled temporarily. now on reinstallation it says 'your copy expired'. how does one get over it?

it means ur trial version expired ... now it wont work until u dont get key:

Either pay for a resubscription, or buy Norton AntiVirus 2007 or another antivirus. There are also some free antiviruses that you can download from the internet. I have used AVG and this other really good one... CA something is what it was called... can't remember exactly.
