I have a 2001 Voyager, had continuous noise coming from under hood. Told by dealer that it is the drive belt and pulley not doing its job properly. Had it replaced, still made noise, told it was other pulleys so they we cleaned, came away noise started again returned to dealer had pulley replaced again, noise still present told neeeded new alternator, replaced this and what a surprise the noise has returned again.

Any suggestions, do not want to sell car, love it, but getting no where in respect to repairs and substantial amount of charges etc. our car has now been back to garage 4 times in last 8 weeks.

The noise is a high pitched screeching noise as if the drive belt is loose. It has been replaced and they say that it has been adjusted to the correct torque setting. it only does it when the vehicle is cold not any other time as yet.

Try a different repair garage.Sounds like they are just guessing.Noises can come from alot of moving parts. Some garages have a tool like stethoscopes and are attached to the engine while driving to detect where the noises are exactly coming from.If this noise is only when it is cold.It just may be condensation on the belt and is soon burned off after running a while. This is common with alot of vehicles and nothing to worry about.

I own a shop, and I can tell you this; Call the person in charge of the business, the higher up the better. Get a meeting with this person, and take all your repair bills with you. Throw them on this persons desk, and ask them if this is any way to do business? Tell them you have paid and paid to have it repaired, but the problem has not been resolved, but you have been charged, and charged, and you would hate to get an attorney involved. Ask them why they are charging you for a job that is not being done? Demand to see the certification of the technicians who did the work on your vehicle. It always helps if you get loud in front of their other potential customers. Threaten to hang signs all over your vehicle, and drive it around town for a week, and threaten to write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper. Last but not least, threaten to call the states attorney general, and file a complaint against them.
Although it can be many things that's causing the noise, and I would only be speculating to say its this or that, but the way we find noises like this is with a stethoscope designed to isolate noise. Any good mechanic should have one of these, and you my friend are being taken advantage of. This is very not like a dealer to do a customer this way, and I'm wondering if the higher ups even are aware of the shotty work the service manager is letting slip past him. He should in fact be replaced due to he is not doing his job.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

the noise you hear is a high pitch squeal at start up
cold only.
i own a 2001 tc van this is common at temps below 30,
the belt tension can't adj fast in the cold below 30,
their is no harm to the car.
it keeps the belt from coming off the pulleys in cold weather or if snow is in the belt path, the noise goes away once the motor has warmed up.
