My dog had all her nipples removed due to cancer, against my best efforts she got to licking her stitches. The stitches have now been removed but the vet said "she can't guarantee they will not burst". Of the 20cm long scar about 2 cm looks a little open. Will this eventually heal by itself and just create scar tissue or will she need to be restitched, which means taking more skin to create a new line? It does not look infected and she had a 4 day antibiotic too. I am going overseas on Tuesday and want her well before I go. Is it a good idea to put a 'bandaid' across it to hold it together??

I went to the chemist and got some butterfly closures as they didn't have the spray. Chloe, has a bucket so she cant lick again, she did have it before but everytime I thought she was ok and left for 5 minutes she licked. Chloe has had 2 operations in 6 weeks as after the first one, I found another lump on the other side, so this too was removed, she has no nipples left now. As you can imagine it hasn't been cheap but she is worth it. Everything seems fine now, it is drying up. Thanks for your help

It should go ahead and heal, as is..Don't put any bandage on..You can spray with the stuff made by Solarcaine, that the pharmacy will sell for women's 'birthing' stiches.(Postpartum spray ) .It will make it bitter to lick, releive pain, and is safe for surgiical sites. Can't think of the brand name, but phamacist would certainly know what I am talking about.
She is sown in several layers of stitches, so it depends which layer might 'burst'..Anyway, you should know by Sunday whether she is healing properly..

You might call your vet tomorrow and ask whether butterfly closures would help..
Just keep her from licking, and keep her quiet..

To rest your mind at ease before you go.You can have the vet take a good look at her. I live in a small town so I can just walk in my vet and they will take a quick look at my dog. If it isn't swollen or bleeding , I wouldn't worry to much about it. No redness anything on that nature. Just keep it clean and an eye on it. Or to set your mind at ease just call the vet and ask them what you said here..They can tell you over the phone what to do. It is best for the vet who operated on your dog to answer this question.

They also should advise you to put a cone around your dog neck so she wouldn't have lick her wounds. All in all since you are going to be gone, it would be best just to call you vet to make sure that this isn't serious.

Your appendix is in actuality a large waste-unload for pollutants. If it is going to become over run (in case you do not flow your bowels a minimum of as quickly as an afternoon) it is going to become inflammed and contaminated, and that's appendicitis. If it bursts, all that CRAP is going into your physique and makes you unwell, and you'd be able to desire to die.
