Every place has their own rules...for example, your bank and your credit card companies might hold you liable for different amounts. I think that credit cards will hold you liable for only the first $50 charged after it's stolen. You should conact each place and find out their policies.
Make sure you report the theft as soon as it happens. That is key! You will also need some kind of proof that it was stolen. So fill out a police report.

The theif is responsible.

You're only responsible for the debts that you approve with your signature. Creditors have the burden of proof that you've authorized them to charge on your account.

If your credit card has been stolen, you are not liable for any charges. Gosh, I sound like a commercial.
