I have recently bought a plasma TV, but am finding the screen has lots of red dots (particularly in dark backgrounds). Has anyone else experienced this. If so can I get rid?

I am also finding that the colour tones on faces are not right despite adjusting the settings to numerous permutations.

I'm not sure if it's dead pixel. If there's one or two maybe it is dead pixel. But if it's many I don't think so (factory won't let unit like that to pass QC).
I think you should complain to your brand call center and ask and expert to check this out. Maybe they have solution for your problem.

And one more thing 1280x720 is the picture resolution. The no of pixel within the screen can't be counted this way.

The red dots sound like dead pixels.
You know what pixels are, right?
They are the smallest element of an image that can be individually processed in a video display system (TV)...
an array of tiny cells, which contain phosphors corresponding to the colors red, green and blue.
Your plasma screen is comprised of thousands of them.
How many?
A screen with 1024x768 resolution, for example, means there are 1,024 pixels lined up side by side along the width of the screen. And 768 pixels are lined up top to bottom. That gives you over 786,000 total pixels within the picture area.

You didn't mention the manufacturer of your TV but, most makers will "allow" for a certain number of dead pixels before a warranty can take effect.
Best thing to do is check with where you purchased the TV and tell them you believe you have "way too many" dead pixels and if they can replace the TV with another one.

And you should know, no one can fix a dead pixel on your plasma screen. If the manufacturer allows for the number of dead pixels or less that you are seeing, he probably will not replace the set.

If, however, where you purchased the set has an exchange policy that allows for you to return and exchange a product in e.g. 30-days, the sooner you act the sooner you might be able to get another set to replace this one.
Good luck!

It will not be constant, I read about it in my camera manual, it should not happen too often though, if there is alto o damp in the air it will be worse.

It has happened regularly to me, like when the aircon is not working

oh dear sounds like it is starting to fail, unless you have a weak picture on freeview through terrestrial aerial because thats what that shows too. hope you are still in warranty !!

This sounds like a faulty unit. I would take back to shop.
