i am older than my brother- i am 16 and he is 13. My brother is a dancer and recently has been in a competition and has won alot of prizes. i am SO proud of him but my grades in school have been slacking. Alot of the attention has gone to him, as in costumes, practices etc and it feels as if i have been left on the sidelines.. conciously im not jealous but im wondering if subconciously i am.. because i have also been feeling a bit depressed and alot of things in my life have gone wrong lately and im wondering if it is because of his acheivements and i have not acheived much at all.. HELP!

You have achieved way more than you give yourself credit for. I dont think its about being jealous or you wouldnt say youre so proud of him.

I see hundreds of questions in here from kids your age complaining about their younger siblings being annoying. What I see in you is a maturity far beyond that they are capable of. You have respect and love and pride in your younger brother and that is quite an achivement.

A person doesnt have to be center stage to be a success. But you might talk to your parents and tell them you could use some help with your schoolwork. Tell them you need some attention like your brother gets it. But also let them know how proud of him you are.

Yes, you are jealous.
However, you need to talk to your parents about this, because if you don't, you will end up hating or despising you're younger brother. Why? Just like you said, that you felt that you have been left on the side lines. Your poor grades might have been a side effect from you getting depressed from your parents not paying attention to you.
Sibling rivalry can result from this type of neglect. You need to go to your parents and tell them that you need help with your school work as much as your brother needs his dancing equipment from your parents. Tell them also that if they don't start to pay attention to you in your school grades and help you with it, it might hurt you in the long run and that you might in turn be despising your family.

You could try joining a club doing something you like to do, or join some sort of sport; that should make you feel better about yourself.

You might be a little jeaous. Maybe you should try to compete with him in some other way, and get the spot light on yourself.

i think you are a little jealous of him but don't worry too much about it coz this is really natural. anyhow don't forget being jealous of ppl who has great achievements can help us perfect ourselves too. so you should learn something from his success and make ur own progress. good luck!

be strong... remember the world does not evolve around you... or your brother... you will find out later in life your brother will be a weak individual who always has to have someone stroking his ego in order for him to be happy... so pick up your chin, and walk proud baby.... cause when he thinks he can't go on anymore, you will be laughing thinking to yourself , my brother is a *****... and i am the strong one... you will understand what i am saying down the road.... good luck...
