I just don't know. But if we don't stop wanting more we'll ruin the Earth with our waste.

because there is a vacuum inside man that is never satisfied - it is called the soul and was made to house God. God cannot come into the soul until the blood of Jesus is applied by the repentance of the heart of man and He is invited in. Once Jesus lives in us, we find peace and contentment. The Word says that godliness with contentment is great gain. The soul is no longer a huge vacuum trying to fill its empty void - now it is alive and filled with God and His light and is satisfied. Then the Spirit of man begins to transform little by little, becoming changed by the light of God and His Word into the image of Christ (it is here that daily struggles exist as we learn to yield to Him). Then we begin to act different and sometimes even look different on the outside, because we are ALIVE, satisfied, full of God and transforming into His image. But until that void is filled with God - we will continue to "want" trying to satisfy it.
