Do you remember the first names of any of his family members? How long ago was it since you last heard from him? His parents or a sibling may have a listed phone number and still live in the same city. Also if you can remember any of his friend's names.
If not, you may have to call everyone in his hometown with the same last name and hope one of them is related!
My 'first love' Googled my name after 10 years and gave me quite a shock when he called!

retrace your steps carefully. find out where you were most recently and what comes to mind and ask yourself were you there. I would definitely ask around or go for a visit and see if that person is around or has gone on with there life. At least you gave it your very best and found out the truth.
