Condoms have been around for about 3000 years, and the ancients used various herbs and substances to prevent pregnancy. Before that, women either induced abortions when they didn't want to give birth or carried the child to term and then killed it. Pretty horrifying, huh?

They might have tried to only have sex when the chances where lowest that the woman would get pregnant. However, the lack of birth control is the reason there is religous rules about bieng married before having sex. Alternativly men (and some women) could visit a prostitute, have sex with someone of the same gender as you are, or copulate with an animal which is why religions also come down hard on those three practices. If you can have sex with a prostitute, with a friend, or an animal why get married? So of course you find religous messages against beastiality, and stating that marriage is only between a man and a woman, and all sex that is before marriage, or between anything but a man or woman is forbidden. You should only have sex when your married to a woman, by the church. Then you should boff like bunnies and have lots of little religious babies to swell the ranks.

Before condoms and birth control, American culture was much different. Pre-marital sex was very rare, so having sex was not a risk, it was just adding to the family. Today, things are much different.
Back in the old days, Guys had to call girls and make the first move, but today, girls are more aggressive, which means they end up having sex before they get married, you end up with alot of teen mothers in high school and alot of 35 year old grand parents who foot the bill.

They had unsafe sex & reproduced like little rabbits and caught every sexually transmitted disease in the book in the process!
Hopefully, most couples were married back then and refrained from straying...
But then again, who knows for sure?
