I was in Hong Kong this january and stayed at two guest houses on Nathan road, Kawloon. The Mirador Mansion and Chunking mansions are located on the main business district of Nathan road and these two buildings have many guest houses and hostels. Some of them book online but I arrived there without a booking, it was not very difficult to find a good room at reasonable rates. Finding dormitory beds could be a bit difficult though. I got good and clean single bed room for HKD 80-100 per night. You can get a dorm bad for HKD 50-60 but beds are limited.
Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station is 1 minute walk from these buildings. There are many food shops and internet cafe there. Infact there are is almost everything a tourist may be looking for. Getting there is very easy. If you are arriving there by the MTR take the Nathan roan exit and you will find the Mirador and Chungking mansions.
These guest houses and hostels have the basic facilities like hot water and common bath. Most places are equipped with the airconditioner. No room service.

Enjoy!

My husband and I stayed at the Man Hin Lung Hostel located at the Mirador Mansion. They even offered free WIFI internet. Don't remember how much we paid but it was less than USD 20/night.

It was quite okay considering we wanted a hostel environment.
