Try a bark collar for a bit it does help and doesn't take long. They will stop and you can remove the collars and they still won't bark... It works.

Every single dog I have had has barked. We, as the leader of the pack have to set the bark limits. Being in the country I love the dog barks because I have noticed they have angry barks and happy barks. Happy barks means company is here. Angry barks means .. attention something unsual is out there, be careful.
Lets start at the barking in the house.
Buy a news paper and roll a couple pages into a loose tube shape and keep it handy.
This barking they do is dog chat to tell you that they have heard a noise that might be from an unfriendly source... or to announce the arrival of the neighbors home again. Dogs hear far better than we mere mortals do.
Tell them "okay okay.. no more barking! no more barking!" If they bark more.. say "That's Enough!" and whop the floor with the paper tube. It will make a huge pop. Repeat as needed with the "That's Enough!" whop! until they stop. Stay with this routine until a simple "okay okay", stops them from continuing the barking. This doggie conversation will allow them to "announce" to you.. and then stop because they will finally realize that when you acknowledge by saying "okay okay".. you have taken note and now don't want anymore barking announcements for a while or they get a penalty whop! on the floor. This really works if you are dilligent with it and buy a fresh paper for popping sounds occasionally.
Now as to the park bark... same thing.. bring your rolled up tube of papers and when they continue to bark past 'okay okay' you can "Thats Enough" and whop the ground.. This will let them know that the Okay laws apply in the park as well. Stay dilligent with the program.. It is simple and works. You can use your own words.. No Barking! Stop! whatever.. but I have used Okay and Enough with excellent results. Just be consistant with your order. Hang in there.. you ARE the leader of the pack.

Get a bottle that has a spray attachment, you can find them at wal mart, usually in the plant & gardening area, and they are cheap. Spay them in the face with it, whenever they bark inappropiatly. You can also carry around a water gun, and that will do the trick. I use it on my dog, works like a charm. I also use it on my cats. Use it to stop scratching, jumping, barking, etc...
I don't know what their ages are , but i am assuming they are young. They might be getting over excited, whenever you take them to the park, or have people over. They need to be socialized and trained. Chows can be wonderful pets, but they can also be very dangerous. I would highly recommend, taking them to dog training school. Get them nuetered, will help with aggression, and unwanted puppies.
I have never owned a chow, but i used to work at a vets office, so i have dealt with a lot of them. Also, keep them brushed and groom them properly, to keep them from getting matted up. I have seen chows so matted that, you can barely get the clippers through them, and then they will be loaded down with fleas, have open sores under the mats, and such. It is a shame, that an animal as beautiful as the chow, could be left to get to that kind of condition.
Good luck , and i hope that you can stop the nuisance barking. Enjoy many years with your dogs.

Dogs bark for various reasons. They are happy. They are fearful. They are trying to protect. They are annoyed. Who can tell? The best way to try to stop the barking is to get a spray bottle and fill it with clean water and each time the dog barks spray his nose. A can full of pennies also works with some dogs. Shake it near his head. if the situation cannot be stopped then a bark collar will do the trick....about 50 bucks, though. And last but not least use a muzzle.

Suggestion: fill a soda tin can with rocks and when your dogs start to bark, shake the can and say no! You get the dogs attention and they will usual stop barking. The most important thing is to be consistent. You have to do this everytime until the dog understands what you want them to do or not to do. This is a safe and easy way to train. Good luck!

you need to start with putting them on leash..when going to the door take your time...never rush to the door....have someone come to the door. make the dogs sit...and sit behind you... ..when they start to bark take to fingers across the nose and say "no noise" or what ever term that you want to use quiet..shut up, no barking.. .once they are in the house make them lie beside you and continue to make them lie or sit still making them to be quite by tapping the nose if they start to utter a sound...once they learn to be quiet use a bean bag or a throw can (can that is clean with rocks/marbles taped in the can) that can be thrown at the feet or near the dog when they start to bark...not intended to hit the dog. just to startle. and get their attention if they are in the house and they bark and you have told them "no noise" and they do not cease. Dogs should bark to alert but once you acknowledge you have heard them they should shut up ...just like your alarm when you turn it off. if you don't tell them then they will continue to bark. Believe me it will work. and does. I have raised may. But you may have to do it a few times.

We have three Jack Russell Terriers....they are barkers too! We had to use the bark collar, but we chose a really safe one, that doesn't shock them. When they bark, it sprays citronella up near their noses and they HATE the smell and the sound the spray makes. Worked like a charm.

BASIC OBEDIENCE CLASS it does wonders as far as getting the message across (in a gentle, non violent way) that you are the alpha and they do as you say. My trainer worked with us and our dog on "nuisance barking" and it helped a lot.

I trust meaghan. i don't think of any canines is going to sit down down back and be quiet whilst some freak comes as much as their backyard and starts banging on the fence. canines instinctively prefer to guard their living house and if that guy is threatening, they'll provide you with a warning! Your dad could go accessible and tell the guy to offer up banging on your fence or he will call the police.

scold them - tell them that barking is a "no-no". dont beat them or anything, just tap them lightly on the nose and say "NO!". if that doesn't work, i dont know what else would. it works well with my dog.
