I bought some DVDs at Best Buy and when I went through the door to leave the alarm went off and the guy in yellow shirt said I need to see your receipt and I said no thank you and start walking out and he flipped a lid and started to follow me and put his arms on my shoulder so I turned around and said if you dont take your hands off me I will use whatever force necessary. So he starts screaming for the other employees to call the cops and says you in big trouble buddy and I laughed and got in my car and drove away as he got my license plate number.

Earlier a cop stopped at my house and rang the bell and I didn't answer. He was here for like 5 minutes too.

I didnt steal anything obviously so screw all of them. My question is what will happen to me now?

I have no intention of "cooperating with police", I will NOT be answering the door, and no I don't have anything to hide. I don't have to hide my genitals either but yet I wear clothes--is that suspicious to all of you too? My rights--I know them, I exercise them, the rest of you and this system be damned.

I smell a lawsuit!!! Unwanted physical contact (Big Burly Best Buy guy) is sexual harassment. Sue and settle. That's the American way.

I'm sorry you received such stupid responses thus far.

YOU CANNOT "get in trouble"--look at these sheep ooooooh they will get in trouble, you can hear the fear trembling off their fingers as they type their brainwashed responses. Laugh at them just like you did the goons at Best Buy.

You don't need to PROVE you didn't steal! What a bunch of marlarkey. This is the United States--the burden of proof is on Best Buy to prove you did steal. They have security cameras. If those cameras don't show a theft they have absolutely NO EVIDENCE against you. The stupid alarm buzzing is not evidence--it's only evidence that the clerk was too stupid to deactivate the DVD.

Once you purchase something, the item and the bag become your private property--nobody has the right to search it. The reciept is your private property too. You don't have to stop and you don't have to "show papers". The only time they can legally detain you is if they witnessed you stealing--which clearly they didn't, or they would have arrested you.

The cop can knock and knock to his wittle heart's content. Don't answer. Don't talk to the police no matter what you do. They lie--they are NOT there to "help you" or "sort this out". They are there to file charges and gather evidence against you. God knows what lie Best Buy cooked up. In the end, it is a matter for the courts if they have enough evidence to charge you which they don't otherwise they would have and the cops wouldn't be trying to ask you questions to get you to incriminate yourself!

You know your rights which is a good thing. But you should also acknowledge the store owner's right to loss prevention. If you didn't do anything you should have just cooperated. It may seem like something silly but if they really wanted to push for it, they could get you for evading at best. HOWEVER, I highly doubt that Best Buy is going to pursue you too heavily unless they think that you shoplifted a grand amount of merchandise.
The screw the system attitude is fine for you - but realize you're only screwing yourself in the long run. It is amazing what kinds of jobs look at criminal records, myspace, and other internet profiles when they are considering a person for employment. But also realize: Just because you don't agree with the system doesn't mean that it does not apply to you. If you hate it that much, pick a new locale and relocate.

First of all, you obviously don't know your rights. I wish you would have had a confrontation with the store employee because the shoplifting charge or investigation could have turned into robbery. Depending on the store surveillance tapes, including your actions inside the store, I may file charges on you. I don't need to speak to you about it. I just have to write my report and submit it to the DA. Since I tried to speak to you at your house about this, I'll include that information so the DA can put out a warrant for your arrest. You actions of refusing to cooperate with store employees/security increase the level of suspicion. I'll wait to talk to you when you get brought in the next time someone runs your plates or drivers license and it pops with a misdemeanor warrant. Now, tell me about your rights and how right you are!!

ok heres the main question.....if you have nothing to hide, if you didnt steal anything.....why did the alarm go off? ok maybe it was something metallic or an error....why not show the receipt to the guard?

running away when you didnt do anything wrong is not the right choice. now the cops will be looking for you. cooperate or they might take you to jail.

As long as you didn't commit any crimes you can't get in trouble. I'll point out that you're only assuming that the police came to visit as a result of that incident.

Well its better if u go to the police station and tell them about it , cause they prolly will be lookin for u or if they see ur plate they will stop u and arrest u , its better if u go to the police station already to talk about it and is the only way to feel better , and not havin any trouble later

So... if you have a "screw everyone attitude," why, again, are you asking this question in Yahoo answers?

And why did you ask this same question already? Wait... I know... you're just trying to ruffle people's feathers.

I hate store nazis too.

I did something similar at a walmart. Woman tells me she needs to see my receipt, I said no you don't and kept on going and left her standing there ranting and raving. Hell she just watched me pay for everything. They are just rude.
