For one thing, he/she is usually dressed diferrently than the ordinary people the dog sees..Next, he dares to just march up to the property, as if he owned it!!! Third, when the dog barks, the culprit leaves..
It all makes for a perfect day of protecting his family from that brazen stranger! Dogs love it!

The mail man is a stranger to the dog, and the dog wants him to leave.

Dogs bark at mail carriers because barking at the mail man always works to make him go away. The dog doesn't know he would go away anyway. The dog thinks his fierce display made him go away. So he keeps barking at him.

It's actually not the mailman per say.
The dog recognizes someone who normally doesn't belong there. And barks to alarm everyone or to chase the threat away. When the mailman leaves it reaffirms the dog that by barking they made the threat leave.
Unlike your friends who come by your place the mailman will just drop the mail and take off. They wont even try to communicate with the animal.

The mail man is an outsider, a stranger. Dogs protect their homes and owners by going after strangers. If anyone comes within fifty feet of our front door my dog barks like crazy.

nicely, i recognize those are not so as, yet they'll help consisting of your situation, i think. a million) connect up with different mailmen that supply on your place and enable them to fulfill the canines. My dogs in my view hates human beings in uniform until he knows who's under the flowery outfits. 2) Barricade the front door. Use a splash gate-like merchandise that stretches purely a techniques sufficient to cover to the door, or to corner it until the mailman is out of sight. (I see this would not help the barking. inspite of the undeniable fact that it is going to help with the shredding of the mail.) 3) If there's a definite form of food your canines appreciate, teach it to them, provide them a command, and learn them that in the event that they don't bark on the mailman and don't consume the mail, they're going to get a delectable manage in return. 4) Take your dogs on walks greater. enable him/her learn the heady scent of the mailman because it walks down the sidewalk. 5) communicate remarkable with the mailman whilst it comes with the mail. in line with possibility even meet him outdoors while you're afraid he/she would have the ability to be aggressive in the direction of the 1st scientific care I listed. Shake hands with them, and instruct your puppy that the mailman isn't a possibility to the abode, and merits to not be barked at. wish I helped!

I think it's because as the mailman approaches, he seems to turn around right away and leave. The dog thinks that he is doing his job and he probably thinks "Look how fast I can make you go away!" The dog learns that certain behavior gets certain results. And to them, they know that if they bark, especially at the mailman, he will go away fast! Cute, aren't they?

My dog used to literally flatten himself out against the window 6 days a week just laying in wait for the poor mailman. And 6 days a week all year long, we tried to break him of this habit, but it was unsuccessful. The mailman knew the dog behavior and he would purposely slam down the lid to the mailbox just to irritate my dog. It was a hoot!

My dogs love the lady that delivers our mail. They run to the fence and wag their tails when she talks to them.
But they bark and act nasty to the man that sometimes comes. He's a real piece of work that we've had words with on several occasions because it's a crapshoot as to whether we get our mail or not when he's doing our route. For over a year I delivered a ladys mail to her who lives 4 blocks away.Have no idea where mine was delivered to tho.

Listen to Chetco, he is so right. But, since I am an owner of two dogs; I have to say what it could also be. Sometimes they feel, when someone does not have good intentions towards you sometimes they bark to people to protect you. I am not saying that the mail man might have bad intentions towards you, but what I am saying is that dogs are really protective to their owners and probably he just wants to protect you from something he/she feels.

My dogs really do not have a problem with the mailman. They just watch him. My dogs used to hate the sound of the big UPS truck. They used to bark and bark. Recently, we got a new UPS guy on our street who likes dogs and carries dog treats in his pockets. Now my dogs can't wait for him to deliver a package to us.

The dog doesn't like the man, or woman who brings their masters bills that will have to be paid.
