I admit I love my ex & would love to get back together but in the end I'm happy just being friends like we use to be even before dating. I just want to see her happy & the last few years especially she hasnt been whether she single or not. She recently came back wanting to reconnect & "hangout" which is fine & I've always been one not to read to much into something so I never just assumed something was date especially since in this case we havent really hungout in a couple years. Its her life who she dates or why am I a bad person? She claims & seems to want to be friends even apologing for not having been there for me in the past which partly I'm sure was because she was in a relationship at the time & thats fine. Either way I'm just tired of seeing her so unhappy & hearing her talk about being alone unhappy & even settleing. She use to want to settled down & get married to someone now she says things like she doesnt think marriage is in the cards for her ever. Wish she would laugh?

Because, just like in this case, one of the people usually always wants to get back together. As a result no matter how much "friends" you want to be, there are always those thoughts, hopes, and feelings to make it more. All is great now while you see her not finding a great person for her. But how will you feel when she finds that one person that makes her happier than you ever could? Would you be able to just sit back and truly be happy for her, or simply be jealous it wasn't you?
That is why in most cases people can't just go from the dating ladder back to the friends ladder and have a real friendship.

I say that you need to be careful. It seems that she came around knowing that you would give her attention, and her saying negative things about her dreams is just another ploy some women use to make herself seem helpless and the guy she is with feel needed.
Ex's can be friends, as long as there is a perfect understanding between the two, and they know that hooking up is generally not a good idea.
Remember you two broke up for a reason, and if there is still that "thing" there, nothing will change the outcome.
