Impossible and impractical to stop air travel.

For one, travel would take double or even triple the time it takes by boat or any other form of transport. No one would be willing to spend more than a day or two travelling. Transport overseas would grind down to a trickle.

Second - imagine the amount of money the economy would lose - and the amount of jobs that would be lost not only in the airports but also in the tourism industry. Any attempt to cut air travel would result in absolute disaster - politically for any government that tried to do it.

Third - Cutting air travel is not the answer to cutting emissions. It means that governments and airlines need to look at alternative sources of fuels or how to make airplanes more economically with their fuel resources and emissions.

Fourth - the government gets alot of money out of taxes from travel. Where air travel is cut, other prices will go up. People would be unwilling to pay more for a less convenient service.
Any major impact on government revenues would damage the economy and the government credibility.

stopping air travel would not be productive. It would limit contact with countries on the other side of the world, which would be very painful for those of us who enjoy travelling. I think that richard branson's reward to whoever finds a way to stop emmisions going from the plane engine into the air is a great idea! hopefully the scientists find a solution soon!

since the airplanes move multiple people and quickly it actually takes much less energy.
a large boat for weeks will give off a lot more CO2
