surfing the web, it looks like there is a lot of metal bridges being sold. for the extra money, is it extra worth it to go for gold? also what about gold foil? my last bridge -gold/porcelain lasted 20 years. i grind and wear a mouth guard every night.
thanks, akua

Don't go for a non- or low-gold bridge, with or without porcelain. Always pay that extra bit for a high-gold bridge, and it will be repaid as a long-term investment that will last a very long time. The high gold is better tolerated by the gums, and if combined with porcelain, they will bond very well together.
If you try a NTI appliance as suggested by Albert above, it should only be used on a short-term basis. If used for a long time, the back teeth tend to overgrow and lead to complications. You can't go wrong with a full coverage mouthguard.

AKUA,
A BRIDGE OF PORCELAIN OVER GOLD IS EXCELLENT.
WHAT CONCERNS ME FOR YOU IS THE GRINDING (BRUXISM). MOUTH GUARDS ARE USEFUL BUT NOT ACTUALLY GRINDING AT ALL IS BEST. MOUTH GUARDS WORK BECAUSE YOUR TEETH GRIND AGAINST THE GUARD RATHER THAN EACH OTHER.
THERE IS A BRUXISM APPLIANCE CALLED AN N.T.I. APPLIANCE. THIS MUST BE MADE BY A DENTIST OR A DENTAL LAB. IT DOES NOT EVEN ALLOW THE TEETH TO COME CLOSE TO TOUCH -- WITHIN A FEW WEEKS THE HABIT OF GRINDING AT NIGHT IS SO WELL CONTROLLED THAT MANY PATIENTS NO LONGER GRIND. IT'S ALSO VERY COMFORTABLE TO WEAR AT NIGHT TO PREVENT POTENTIAL DAMAGE
TALK TO YOUR DENTIST ABOUT A CAPTEK BRIDGE, IT'S HIGH NOBLE GOLD OF ABOUT 22K GOLD. THIS IS OUTSTANDING FOR GINGIVAL TISSUE HEALTH AND ANTI-BACTERIAL PROPERTIES.

Gold makes you look TACKY!!!! Natural is best.

You need to use the night guard with either one to avoid fracturing off the inside of the crowns.

I have three that are fractured now and need to replace.

Good Luck.
