I am on leave in Indiana right now. I am stationed at Ft. Drum, New York. I just bought a car and plan on driving it back to Ft. Drum. I need several documents to register my vehicle on Ft. Drum but one of the things is a document proving my vehicle had a safety inspection in the state it was registered. Now, safety inspections are apparently commonplace in New York but I have never heard them doing that here in Indiana (where my car is currently registered). What do I do?

I just registered my vehicle a few days ago, so the Indiana BMV currently has my title (and will mail it in 60 days), making it impossible for my to re-register my vehicle in New York.

Even if I talk to the guys at North Gate, will they let me drive my vehicle on post?

Where can I get an inspection? How long does it take? Do I have to call ahead?

I still don't see how they'll let me through the gate. I thought you get your vehicle registered at Clark Hall or something. Will the gate guards cut me some slack? Or is the registration actually done at the gate or something?

The vehicle is registered in Indiana right? Does Indiana require an inspection? I know for our cars, we register them in NM with no inspection but are stationed in CT which does have one. We have had no problem bringing just the NM registration, proof of insurance and ID to the pass and ID office and getting our base stickers.

Also, I can't think of a single base where pass and ID is inside the gates. Doesn't mean it's not at Ft. Drum but usually there is an office just outside the main gate to the base that handles this stuff.

Ok Soldier this one is all too easy. You do not need have it done in the state it is registered in actually, that is a sort of minimum requirement. You can get a NY State inspection done as well. I did mine through the unit an Ft Drum's on post DMV.

That is how I did my stuff with out of state plates and registration. Did my insurance through State Farm down in Watertown.

Do the inspection in Indiana. Here in Texas they do state inspections at most gas stations and jiffy lubes. They cost about $50 and depending on how many cars are in front of you, it should only take about an hour tops.

Oh, and you just show up. No big deal.

One stop (on submit) has the solutions. you could have a base telephone itemizing with those numbers in it. yet i'm able to assert from my journey in NC (claiming TX as residing house station), I had TX registration yet went interior the direction of the everyday ordeal to get a NC driving force's license. I enjoyed having a license interior the state i replaced into residing in in simple terms because of the fact it made issues extra easy to comprehend for whoever needed it - financial institutions, those pesky policeman who say i'm no longer able to study the fee decrease signs and warning signs, and so on. do no longer forget approximately all of us interior the marines and their better halves (reason they're "in it" too) - all of us is a transplant. they have been interior the direction of a similar transitions you're dealing with so use them. they're a fountain of wisdom and militia households are in many situations very accepting.
