I never had an image, more like blinding light and a booming voice kind of deal...not believing in that long flowing white beard deal you see in cartoons.

Because He God to me (and millions of Hindus) he is very close and real to me. He has a physical body that looks human.Sometimes it is blue. Other times it is covered in Holy Sacred Ash. He wears a leopard skin, elephant hide, loin cloth, or he is naked. He sits in the Lotus posture meditating, because He is the Lord Of The Yogis. He is seated on a tiger skin.Cobras adorn His beautiful body. His hair is long and matted, and coiled on his head. His mound of hair is most incredible. The Sacred River Ganges flows from His matted Locks. He has a blissful expression on His face. There is a "Third Eye" on His forehead. It is a Spiritual, All Seeing Eye of God. Sometimes His eyes are opened. He has the most beautiful smile. He wears large brass earrings. There is an effulgence behind His head, like a powerful, beautiful sun. All of this is so extremely beautiful, that His beauty is hypnotic. He is The Supreme Yogi of All the Universes. He is the Source Of All Existence. All Gods are forms of Him. Just to see His picture, or say His name; a person makes Spiritual advancement. His name is Lord Shiva. Even if your not His devotee:even if you're a Christian; I believe that just by reading about Him, this will change your karma. And in some future birth, you will find yourself searching for Him. That is who I believe God is. He is also The God of Eternal Love and Bliss.Thank you for allowing my meager attempt to somehow describe His beauty, and wonder.

"He looks like a man with divinity"
"He is dark divine matter visible to none".
"He is the form of very soothing golden light".
"He is the primordial giver of divine affection".
Nothing of what is ever imagined, or ever
experienced in reality can ever describe Him fully.
Many questions were asked in the ancient Hindu texts
about the nature of Parama Atama (infinite soul,
or Almighty) and Atma (soul). In the olden days,
Gurus used to put these questions to disciples to test
their knowledge.
What is the constituent material of Parama Atama? All
materials are subject to decay and annihilation, Parama
Atama is above the influence of decay and annihilation.
He is eternal.
Then is Parama Atama a void? In terms of material
characteristics, Parama Atama is void (Soonya).
Can this lead to the logic that Parama Atama is not
there? No. Parama Atama is there. He is consciousness,
the infinite consciousness. The Atma which is piece of
Parama Atama, according to Advaita Vedanta, is personal
consciousness. Soul was created in the likeness of
Infinite Soul.
Since Atma is only a minute piece of Paramatma, is it
subjected to annihilation? No. Atma is also eternal.
How can the finite describe the infinite?

Wow. One of the few truly Ignostic questions that I have seen here. Agnostics think that the existence of God is unprovable either way. So they want to ignore it.
Ignostics realize that unless you define what you mean by God nobody knows what they are talking about and it is all just gibberish.
Hello.
Has anybody offered a real definition yet? I doubt if they can.
If they did we would have something to talk about.

Here's someone like a son of man, He's dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing water. In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edge sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

I don't know what God's physical appearance is, and I don't intend to manufacture an image for my own sake, either. It's a mistake to conjure a mental picture for worship, and a bit too close to idolatry for comfort.

For me trying to think of what God looks like is like trying to remember the face of someone in your dream. You remember what you were feeling but can't quite make out features. When I think of God or pray I can feel the white warmth of his love and feel he is smiling even though I can't see a mouth. Possibly because knowing what he looks like is a gift for going to heaven.
