Along the same lines as Winston Churchill's "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" line.

That death is death and fear of death is fear of the unknown. This person should have no fear of the unknown because she has already experienced it in part so it is not unknown to her.

Who cares if you're going to die, what difference does it make if you're scared?

The bit you quoted means basically that.
