Your signature dish (the recipe everyone compliments you on when you prepare it) (that is, if your signature dish is something he likes). This way, you will establish yourself as a good cook.
Later on, you can prepare his favorite dish, and having already established that you are a good cook. Then if something goes wrong, it won't be as big of a deal.
If his favorite dish is the one you cook best, You are lucky, lucky, lucky!!
If he doesn't like your signature dish, make the best dish of your own that he will like.
And make sure to set the table for romance, with a tablecloth, flowers and candles!!!
Also, make a fabulous, albeit light, dessert. Something romantic (like chocolate covered strawberries)(you can buy the dipping chocolate and microwave it--easy! easy! easy!).
Keeping the dessert light and not too much food at dinner will ensure that the romantic evening continues, without both of you feeling overstuffed and sleepy.

You want something impressive but easy (no fail?). Try salmon, salad and french bread.
Put foil or parchment on a cooking sheet and pour oil on it. Put the piece of salmon (fresh, not canned!) on the sheet and rub it around to get oily, then flip it and do the same, then place it skin side down and sprinkle lemon pepper on it. The oil will hold the spice in place. Cold the sheet up over the fish and bake at 400 for about 1.2 an hour. Then uncover the fish and let it brown for about 5-10 minutes.
Get whatever you like for the salad. Spinach and mushrooms? Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers? Just be sure to wash it first.
Add some fresh french bread and whatever you like to drink.

Well, if it's your first time cooking then I would suggest a colorful salad like spinach with strawberries, pine nuts, gorgonzola cheese, and so on. Then I would probably buy a really nice roast turkey or chicken from Whole Foods and a good loaf of french bread. I think you'll be too stressed cooking for a man if you've never cooked before so play it safe.

Forget the salad, most guys hate salad and think it's a real chick food.
I would do marinated racks of lamb. Racks of lamb are always really impressive for some reason although they're really easy.
Marinate the lamb in rosemary, olive oil and a little lemon rind. Char grill each side and then finish off in the oven.
Serve them on couscous (you don't even have to cook it, just add hot water) with red & green peppers, currants and almonds. People are also impressed with couscous bc I don't think people eat it very often.
Char some asparaguy spears (don't cut, serve long) or saute some green beans in red onion and a little bacon. Tastes so good, guys love beans served this way.
I would also make some roast potatoes, guys seem to love potatoes. If you make potatoes then you can skip the couscous. I would make both bc I LOVE cooking.
Marinated racks of lamb with roasted potatoes and green beans in onions and bacon. Come on - he's got to love it.

If it is your first try at cooking, spaghetti, is easy! they have great sauces in the grocery. Also you can buy frozen garlic bread that tastes great, just slice and heat. A salad is simple to go with this. Buy a bottle of wine also and set the table nice. Good luck!

He loves my meatloaf.
2 lbs ground beef
2 eggs
3/4 cup BBQ sauce
1 1/4 cup crushed Italian bread crumbs
1 envelope of Lipton's Savory Herb and Garlic soup mix
chopped onion
chopped green bell peppers
Mix it together very good, put in a loaf pan, and put in a 350* oven for about 1 hour. I cook creamed potatoes and green beans with it.

All depends on his likes and what all you are willing to get into... If he likes beef and seafood I suggest a surf and turf type of meal...Nice wine and candle light (if your old enough). A nice steak and maybe some shrimp baked potato and nice veggie. You will have to feel him out to get his favorite foods. Italian food is always a winner with a nice salad and fresh french bread also with a bottle of good wine. Well hope I gave you some ideas. Good Luck and have a wonderful dinner...

Is it your first time cooking , or the first time cooking for him. Whatever it is, if you can try it out before you cook it for him. So if you **** it up, it won't be in front of him. Pasta is always good.

It depends what you like but my favorite to make for my man and anytime we have commpany are the stuffed ricotta shells. If you buy the Ronzoni brand shells, the recipie is on the back of the box. I made them tonight actually and our company had seconds and thirds. They're so easy and I haven't met anyone yet that doesnt like them. I use extra nutmeg and pepper than the recipie calls for and I use prego brand sauce.

For first time i suggest stir-fry or a pasta dish, the less you have to do, the less scary it will be.
There are lots of pre-made sauces you can buy for pasta an stirfry that have the recipes on the jar and are tasty and easy to make.
