I have heard this dicussed several times before...and I still cant believe how many people are wondering the same thing I am...will it happen?

The most likely answer is no. Yet we do have great rifts to heal in our nation. I will give every answer that I can

Political Explanations:

- Yes, the liberal press is a reality...though it does give the conservative ideology so leeway. But no one, save a delusional fool, can underestimate the power of the press to sway a persons mind politically.

- The issues we face today are critical not only to how we deal with ourselves, but deal with others. It all lends itself to our national identity.
*War- Anyone can say a war is a bad thing, and I will not disagree. What I do disagree with is that war is unnecessary, In fact war IS necessary. I do not expect people to understand me on this and I will not apologize neither...this is the course I follow on. The reasons are simple:
a. Most of the advances we have in thecommercial world have lent themselves to military use or vice versa. If it had not been for military satellite research for communications and weapons-targeting systems...guess what? No cell phones, no satellite phones, no internet, we would be back to broadcasting radio waves and using telephone wires only. If it had not been for military testing to use microwave ray-type weapons...guess what...no microwaves. No military computer research...guess what...i dont think i even have to say it by now...
b. The Great Depression would have lasted longer had it not been for World War 2...point blank...they do good for industry, commerce, and agriculture as spending goes up in all three areas in wartime.
c. The point you're all gonna get mad at me for...the people who need to die will... along with the unfortunate ones who get caught in the crossfire. And how would I determine the ones who need to die are? The ones who are too cowardly and honorless to fight an open battle, who attack and target innocent civilians to provoke war, or do so in the midst or during the aftermath of a war. The ones who turn 10 year old girls into suicide bombers and send them down the streets giving our soldiers the choice of either shooting her or be killed themselves...it happens folks...reality check.
*Prisoner Abuse. Nobody can avoid the abuse scandals...they have seriously degraded the image of our nation broad. These things happen in war...sorry, but its true...even up to the almighty French who in World War I near the Somme shot a bunch of German prisoners who surrendered.
*Tax cuts...killing us, bleeding us dry basically. If anything we need to raise taxes along with an appropriate and correlating amount of minimum wage increases.

I'm going to go against the grain and answer "Yes".

I'm not going to spend a lot of time giving examples of plausible circumstances, but let's consider history. And by history, I mean human history, not just American history:

1) More wars are fought in the name of religion than any other single cause. It is fathomable to me that, given the Muslim extremists Jihad against Christians, and liberal attacks on Christians within our borders, that Christians one day become violently defensive.

2) Capitalism is self-destructive. One day, one person owns everything. That's the game. But sometime before that happens the masses rise up. What system emerges? In the chaos, there will certainly be a civil war between those who believe we start over again, as capitalists, and those who want some more formal type of socialism, or even communism.

3) As we journey closer to a one-word economy, there will be those who see this as a threat to American morals and ideals, and will fight, first as guerrillas, against the tide of the "one World Order", although not the one the liberals fear, dominated by Bush or the like. Rather, Americans who will believe fighting for our national identity and against a United Nations type domination is what we MUST do.

Personally, I am raising my children to be prepared for the day. But what will cause it? I'm not certain. Will it happen? Yes, I actually think that The United States, as it now exists, will face internal strife that rises to the level of "Civil War", probably in the next 50 years.

The next civil war in America could be generated by a lawmaker trying to prohibit firearms because many Americans feel that many good people have been killed in past wars protecting our Constitution and will not hesitate if it comes to that. Economic reasons due to inflation will probably start the next one. It is possible.

No, not in their present forms anyway. As vehemently opposed as modern conservatives and liberals are to eachother, they often spew their own crap but unite strongly over the fact that they love America. I know that sounds wishy-washy, but the differences between the two lack the same hatred that, for example, flourished between northerns and southerners during the civil war. Of course, anything is possible, but I doubt in our lifetimes, our children's lifetimes, their children's lifetimes, etc...

I don't think that it would happen, but if it did the the Conservatives would slaughter the liberals. The Conservatives have the firearms and military. The liberals would be huddled up and chanting, "war is bad!" (They would sound like Mrs. Mackey off of South Park!!!!! LOL

Would never happen, buuuuuut...if it did...

Conservatives...

I'd put my money on the crazy, southern, NASCAR loving, gun rack in the rear, tobacco chewing, jacked-up-pick-up truck driving rednecks any day of the week...they'd tear through California Liberals like BBQ on a Saturday morning tailgate party...and that's just from Alabama...you still have Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, etc...

I love BBQ and miss tailgating already

I agree with neoconam....the only way a civil war would break out is if the governemnt tries to take away our guns. Violating our constitutional right to bear arms.

The obvious conclusion to draw is that "Conservatives" are all gun toting idiots. The truth is not all of them tote guns.
Considering that the rich never really fight wars, that cuts down the numbers tremendously. After that, there are just so many poor conservatives who can read and write, so, in sheer numbers... Liberals win, hands down. The Conservative's propaganda all these years that Liberals hate guns and gun owners puts the Conservatives in a false sense of superiority for which they pay for dearly. Finally, when the Conservative Army's poor start getting letters from the bank that they are going to lose the mobile home, a lot of them are going to desert and get back to work. Liberals, many of whom wern't working anyway, will pour into the undefended territory. It would be a rout!

No, wouldn't happen. We are all intertwined in life and work. If states contained people that were only liberal and only conservative, then maybe.

No, it would be disastrous for all parties involved, there is too much at stake if the US split.
