I was just reading someone else's question about guys who are slackers—seems most women hate that. I've always pretty much taken that for granted, but never really thought to wonder what the reason was. Is it really that big of a turn off/on?

What are your reasons, please, not just yes or no.

I suppose part of this question is to do with the fact that today, most women provide for themselves. Obviously it makes a big difference in the traditional men-as-the-breadwinners model. Why is it emotionally so important?

the turn off regarding slackers is the lack of commitment. He can't commit to anything except doing nothing. Naturally, women want a man who can provide (be the bread winner) for their family. I recently got married, my husband is the sole provider for our house hold. If he were a slacker, I would have to support him. Who wants to give a piggy back ride all their life.

Ambition is important because it shows that you are willing to work toward a goal. Typically, any relationship is just that, a goal that you and another person are trying to reach.

Well slackers have less meaningful lives, but then again ambition men never have any time for anyone. I don't think maybe the fact some guys sell themselves short.

Many women look for potential in guys, it's sort of ingrained more than active; the search for ambition likely dates back to more primitive times and, even in modern times, it remains. Generally speaking, women want guys who can take care of them, money included, which can be procured through ambition.

Women are very security oriented and programmed that way. That is why. It is for survival, the man is the hunter to go out and kill the mammoth. It is a sign that her children will be well cared for. Survival instincts.

It's a survival trait and we're pretty much animals (as humans). Ambition means you will provide. It means you are motivated and you are in a sense, a fighter. Fighters are turn-ons :-) Well...the good kind of fighters....

Most girls like the thought of being fed and clothed. It's that simple. If he can't provide then he is a lot less appealing.

Think about a woman that doesn't clean house, doesn't tend the kids, doesn't keep a job, has no future goals. Goes both ways.
