It was probably a leg of lamb by the sounds of it. Roughly, a 2kg one will take about 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours on a moderate heat, depending on how well you want it done.
I always cook my lamb with fresh garlic & rosemary. Using a sharp knife, poke some slits all over the lamb and put a garlic clove & sprig of rosemary in each one. Then sprinkle with some sea salt and drizzle with good quality Olive oil.
Can't go wrong, it's delicious!

Probably a boneless leg.

In the UK you also get the "shoulder " as a roast but that is fattier and you can get the leg with the bone still in also.

A rack of lamb is mostly bones.....it's the lamb chops or cutlets before they are individually cut up.

Roast at a medium heat for about 25 to 30 mins per pound plus 25 minutes - less time if you prefer the meat still pink.

It was more than likely the leg. Lamb chops are too small, but the leg (especially the top part of it) resembles a roast.

The leg is normally best roasted and can be found as various cut, from a whole leg, thick end, shank
