It can if you wait for a long time.

Only if they report it to the Credit Bureau. If it is already in collections with a 3rd party collection agency, it is already having a negative impact on your credit.

I once talked to a person who wrote a check for pizza delivery from Dominos and the check was bad (bounced) and he never made good on the check and it showed up on his credit report. He went on to explain that the pizza wasn't even that good! Moral of the story... don't avoid the situation, call the person/company you owe the money to and work something out. If you keep in contact with them and stay true to your word you'll most likely come out way ahead of where you will end up otherwise.

Define "late."

If it goes more than 30 days past due without setting up payment arrangements, then yes, it can effect your credit.

However, there's no reason for it to do so unless you simply choose to ignore it. Call them and set up some kind of payment plan, even if it's only $10/month.

From what I understand, they are obligated to accept payment plans made in good faith. But don't miss any payments or that could cause issues.

They can report it to your credit. Try calling them and finding out if they have sent your bill to collections.
