My dog just got skunked. I bathed her with dish soap and peroxide however I have no baking soda. It's 11:30pm here, I can't drive because of the medicine I took tonight, and no one else is around or awake to loan me or buy me some baking soda.

Any ideas as to how I can rid her of the smell without baking soda? I will bathe her again tomorrow after I can go to the store but in the meantime I can only use so much febreeze with my animals in the house.

Leaving her outside is NOT an option, she is a Lab mix with short hair, it's too cold (she's an indoor dog) and besides, that's where she found the damn skunk...

Any ideas would be appreciated. Please don't say tomato juice, I don't have any and it doesn't work anyways.

Thanks.

Equal parts tomato juice, vinegar, and dawn dish soap.
Mix it up, pour it on, later it up, and let it soak for as long as the dog will tolerate it -- the longer the better. You may have to repeat.

Sounds dumb, but every client I've ever told about it has been happy with the results!!

i'd wake someone up - I'd rather be woken up than to awaken to a horribleskunk stenched dog ...

try these Tip: You can also wash your clothes in these, but be warned that it may cause bleaching, of both your clothes AND your dog. Lightened fur has been reported frequently.

Please use care when washing your dog's face. These ingredients all have acidic properties and can cause painful eye irritation. If your dog's eyes are red and swollen, he may have been sprayed directly in the face, please contact your veterinarian about soothing eye drops available.

I have had the same experience with my maltese dog.
She smelled so bad and I couldn't put her outside and the
smell was driving her crazy to.

I used tomato juice. I bought several large tins and I did it
twice a day for a week. It worked very well. I had not heard
of using it before, but I gave it a try cause I was desperate
and the smell was gone in no time. Just make sure you do
this indoors depending on the weather you have where
you live, casue you don't want the dog to get sick.

It may sound strange, but it will work.

Try the Peroxide/soda/detergent mix followed by powdered (vinegar) douche diluted with 1/2 the water suggested on the box...Nothing will totally take away the smell, except time and several baths.

Okay, no tomato juice, but do you have tomato soup? That might work. Sounds like you get to go and buy a bunch of baking soda in the morning. Sorry!

Believe it or not tomato sauce is the absolute best way to neutralize the enzymes in the skunk spray. Good Luck!
