I had an inpsection ticket in League City, TX. I wanted to know how long I would have to sit in jail to clear the balance. I heard you get 100 dollars a day in city jail. I think the ticket is only 250 dollars.

Everything depends on the judge. In most cities the judge has a min and maximum that he/she can work with. I suggest to pay the fine and move on

Figure it this way, it costs about 25K a year to house a prisoner in a state institution. You will most likely get sentenced to small time in jail because of your $250 ticket. However, the bill you get from the jail will be far more larger than that. A three day stay in the jail in my area is about $250. You aren't getting one over on the system by not paying your ticket. In fact, the only thing you're doing is contributing to more senseless over crowing in the jails and prisons in this country. You're a taxpayer, and I'm sure you'd have a thing or two to say about someone abusing your tax dollars - what makes you special? You're better of paying your ticket.

Why would you get paid to sit in jail?

Our jail is "pay to stay". You owe $56.00 for each day you are in jail.

If you go to jail for not paying the fine, you are jailed for contempt. After you do a few days, or whatever they think is appropriate, the judge will lecture you and they will set up a payment schedule for your fines. Then if you don't keep up with it you repeat the process all over again.

The Judge can ultimately sentence you for up to 30 days for a misdemeanor, but because of overcrowding you usually only spend 3 days.

From what I've heard some cities don't "pay" you anything at all and some "pay" $50.00 a day.
