Prozac, paxil, celexia, and a few other didn't work, caused severe weight gain, caused suicidal thoughts, and other bad side effects.

So, what is something else? Something natural like a food or herb even, or a good percription?

Dear, the truth is that if your depression persist and you are experiencing suicidal thoughts that should lead you to another doctor and another substance. Depression CANNOT be alleviated or treated with any herbal remedies. I am sorry, but that is the truth.
Have you tried Zoloft ( containing Sertraline), it is usually very well tolerated by the patients and is the anti-depressant , which effect could be observed after maximum 2 weeks proper intake. As you have mentioned that Prozak, Paxil and Celexa didn't work, Sertraline is a must choice then..

Hope that helps!
Have a great day!

First start with a good B complex vitamin. Depression, insomnia, and craving chocolate and sweets as well as mouth sores or cracks around the mouth are caused by a B vitamin deficiancy. B-12 is also very important. Then you can also use St. John's wort. All of these can be found at any drug store or store like Walmart. GNC vitamins is a good place as well.

Zoloft & effexor are having good results for some.
The herbals suggested are good, like:
St Johns Wort, evening primrose oil, fish oil (omega 3). Note huge warning St Johns & some other herbals cant be taken with antidepressants always consult your doctor & advise what herbals you take or wish to.

St John's Wart along with mulit-vitamins should do the trick. A drop or two of rescue remedy on the tongue in those extreme stress situations at the time can also help. Ask at your local health food/ naturopath

I've heard Omega-3 is good for depression, but it won't work well on its own.

As for medication, it looks like all you've tried are SSRIs, so you might want to ask about Effexor and Welllbutrin. They both act on different brain chemicals than what you've tried. I'm on Wellbutrin now because I tried a few SSRIs and they just don't work with my body chemistry. That's the problem with psychiatric drugs; you don't know what works for you until you start trying them.

maybe you were misdiagnosed?...there are other diseases out there that have similar symptoms such as bi-polar, seasonal affective disorder, etc., etc. talk to your doctor about referring you to a psychiatrist for an assessment, if that hasnt already been done. or maybe you just havent found the right one yet..keep trying. i am taking celexa, they work for me, proper dosage is achieved and i find the side effects minimal. get a second or third opinion..and never quit your ADs abruptly as it will send you into relaspe and then you'll feel a whole lot WORSE!
