When a person goes through the Security - does he/she have to take her watch and rings off their arms and fingers or can they leave them on while walking through the "scans?" What about shoes? Does he/she still have to take them off and walk barefoot through the "scans?" This is for flights in the U.S. only. I'm curious.

Yes, you have to take off your shoes, but you can usually leave your jewlery on.

I wear two silver bracelts as well as a stainless steel watch band, so I usually remove them as well because the extra screening you have to go through if you set off the metal detecor is a pain in the butt.

Wear shoes that are easy to take off and limited jewlery and you'll be fine.

Anything metal has to be taken off - change in pocket, cell phone, car keys, large jewelry, large belt buckle. Anything big enough to set off the metal detector, and better to take off too much and know you won't alarm. Shoes and jacket also have to be taken off. You'll be in a line, so just watch what the people in front of you do (and you'll probably see at least one person that forgot that their cell phone is still in it's belt holder) You'll do just fine. I've worn hoop earrings, a leather-band watch and an underwire bra through without alarming, but I don't have much metal to start with.

Yes, you will have to remove all metal objects and take off your shoes at U.S. airports. Here is some guidance from the Transportation Security Administration: http://www.tsa.gov/

Yep. Shoes always come off. Sometimes your jewelry will set it off, depending on the composition of the metal. I always just take it off. Frequent traveler and I fly 40 times each year.

i think you can leave wedding bands on but all other larger rings must come off, also your shoes must come off too (make sure to wear socks), if you've got a heavy belt buckle that'll usually have to go too. more or less anything metallic that is removable... remove it

OK every airport is diffrent. Don't take the shoes of unless you know there is metal in them or they ask you too. Take all Gum pappers out of your pockets. I have been busted from tthem it took the Secruity and me 30 min to find out what it was.

Usually its just the shoes. I don't see people usually taking off their jewelery. Also, usually when people wear shoes they wear socks... so its not really 'barefoot.'
