As with all cruise lines, it depends on the ship, the class of the cabin you booked and plain old luck. Carnival gets so many mixed reviews, from boring to party ship ... it is hard to tell what your sailing will be like.
One thing to bear in mind is that if you are traveling on or near a major holiday (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.) the cruise will be overflowing with families w/ young children. Again, this can be good or bad depending on your situation.
I am 28 years old and have went on a lot of cruises that others have reviewed as "for seniors" and I had a blast, dancing till 4 am most nights (BTW many "seniors" also were out until 2 in the morning dancing to the DJ - never judge a book by its cover!)
I did have such a good time on one cruise ship I went on the same ship a second time only 3 months later- the second time was horrible! The food was bad, the weather horrible. The service was awful. This all goes to show that even the same ship with the same staff can be different because of variables out of anyones control. The second sailing was a Christmas cruise, which probably had some bearing on the service - an influx of families often overextends the crew and can make even the most gracious staff tired and irritable.
Cabins will vary in size and amenity depending on which type or class you booked. I generally book the cheapest inside rooms, since I only sleep and shower in the room. All rooms will have 2 twin beds (most convert to a king). Some will have a convertible couch or pullman beds (extra beds that pull out of the ceiling panels) - your room will likely have one of these options if it has been booked for three. Unless of course you booked a suite! Check your information from the travel agency or cruise line - it should contain a room number which you can use to check out your room on the carnival website (check out your ship's deck plans). Carnival rooms also have a tv, hairdryer, shower (tub in some suites), vanity/desk, and complimentary bath robes to use while onboard (you have to request those from your cabin steward if you are in the lower classed rooms). Rooms on lower decks offer a smoother ride, but are generally further away from the action. Rooms on the higher decks are generally more expensive but tend to be more conveniently located.
All this being said, I am going on a Carnival cruise at the end of March and couldn't be more excited. Cruises are the best way to travel and relax. Whenever I can get cheap flights and an inexpensive cabin I am hopping on board. On this particular cruise I went very cheap and booked an interior room on a discounted rate because it has one upper and one lower bed (kind of a classy way to say built in bunk beds). Since I am taking my mother, and I am young enough to feel comfortable climbing into a bunk, this is actually not so terrible an arrangement for a much cheaper cruise fare!
TIPS:
Check out your ports of call in advance - books from the library are a great source of info - you usually have a limited time in port, make sure you can make the most of it!
Wash your hands OFTEN and use hand sanitizers when they are offered at the buffet. Nothing ruins a vacation faster than getting sick!
Eat dinner in the dining room EVERY night. The menus are different every night and the food is far superior. I always prefer the buffet for breakfast and lunch, but for sit down service - hit the dining room. Some Carnival ships have sushi bars and fish n'chips stands too.
Ginger Tablets. The ship will offer complimentary dramamine at the infirmary and concierge desk - personally I think ginger works a lot better for sea sickness (which I only experience for a few hours during a storm one time - it is rare on large ships) and it doesn't make you tired. Many ships serve asian dishes with a large amount of ginger in them - that helps too (this is where the sushi bar is great! Ask for some pickled ginger to nibble on).
Most cruise ships allow a small amount of non-alcoholic beverages to be brought on board and consumed while the cruise is in progress. If you don't purchase a soda card (unlimited sodas during the cruise) you may wish to buy a couple of two liters or a 12 pack of sodas at your first port of call. Sodas run about $1.50 a can onboard. most cruiselines include lemonade, tea, coffee and various other options in the cost of the cruise. Alcohol will typically vary from $2.50-$10.00 a drink.
Pack light. Most cruisers find that they are able to wear most items more than once - most Carnival liners offer do it yourself laundry (kind of inconvenient) and laundry service (a little expensive, but good for pressing your formal dresses; suits).

Hey
I have been on 2 carnival cruises. They are so fun. You get to lay in the sun by the nice cool pool all day, and when you stop at places you get to get off the ship and go shopping and swimming in the ocean and stuff, its overall really fun. As for the room, it depends if you have a room with a balcony or with out a balcony and it has no windows. I got one with a balcony one time and onetime i didn't have a balcony so I have experienced both. The one with the balcony is overall better, you get the nice lighting in the morning, and in the one without the balcony its really dark when you turn the light off to go to sleep and it is way smaller. The one with the balcony is bigger and is just overall better.
I really loved going on the Carnival Cruise Line. I am planning on going on one sometime soon again. The only thing I didn't really like, is that the pools are sometimes saltwater, well at least they were saltwater on the one ship i went on. They are very refreshing though. I also like it because you have an ice cream machine open all day and all night and you can go get ice cream whenever you want, I know I may sound like a pig but really I am not a pig at all. Also, it is very crowded so dont be surprised if you get stuck in a huge crowd of people. www.carnival.com is the website that has all the information. I hope I helped!

Unfortunately, I have been on several Carnival Cruises. The first one was ok for a 21 year old. The most recent one was dreadful. If you are young (under 25) and aren't expecting too much, you'll have a great time. I'm somewhat of a travel snob and it just didn't meet my standards.
Everything from the food to the passengers to the service were just poor, trashy, and mediocre, respectively. I've never been anywhere where other people were screaming at gays, calling them "FAGS" and "HOMOS" and threatening to come after other passengers - and this was a common occurance. It was very White Zin and Coors Light as opposed to Pinot Noir and Spaten.

i just went on a carnival cruise it was awesome there was alot of stuff to do and i never got bored. at the beginning of the cruise i went and paid for all the excursions i wanted to go on like scuba diving and sailing.and then.on the boat they had gambling of course but they also always had some program going on like dance lessons or bingo so much i cant remember it all. if you rooming with 2 ppl and got a regular room that has 2 bunks and then the extra cot its a little cramped but you really are only in their to sleep anyways. i guess you could go and look at carnival.com or if you even go to ask.com and put in anything you want you can find what your looking for there...hope you have fun!!!

I have been on the Carnival Miracle and it is great. It was very clean throughout. It depends on which ship you choose and what room. I was in a balcony room with three other people and was small, but we could still fit. Carnival's bathrooms are usually small.

I have an i loved it. Had one of the best holidays ever! Always lots to do and great food! I found the rooms not a bad size. I had been expecting smaller, but it was fine. If you have any specific questions feel free to email me!
