I think it has to do with the fact that ice cream is associated with happy memories as a kid, and when u get older....you tend to find other, more adult, ways of enjoying it.

because they associate it with being a kid and that it is a comfort food. (it also dosen't hurt that it is cold,creamy and tastes absolutely wonderful)
