i have a rechargeable Nihm 9.6v battery with 8aa batteries and i want to take them apart so i can reduce the votage to 7.2v. I also want to reduce the size so it can fit into my other rc car. If i eliminate 2aa batteries will this make it 7.2v .Please tell me if this is all possible or if it will destroy my batteries.thanks

Do they have solder tabs on them? If so, and you are careful how you solder then yes you can. You have to be careful only heat up the solder tabs and not the battery. If you heat up the battery you will ruin it. Don't solder directly to the battery itself.

I wouldn't mess w/ them, because last time I did I got leaky batteries (and the acid burns...).

I would just start from scratch w/ batteries from the dollar store and covering the area so you can just toss everything if the acid starts leaking (that way you're only out 25cents a battery too).
