Of course not.... by getting mad at you, your friend has already shown you what being a religious person is NOT.

You don't need to be religious to be a good person. You dont need to have a religion or a god to live a benevolent life. If having a religion and a God belief answers all of a person's woes and questions...

Then what about the people in the middle east right now? Most of them are highly devoted to their faith... but many are living in fear, despair and in the throes of war. In Ireland, Protestants and Catholics are constantly bickering over power....

Religion or Spirituality is in our hearts... we can be totally Religious but not at all Spiritual... People drunk in religious pride are judgemental, hurtful and tend to deprive a person of their divinely given right of free will.

I would say: Don't be religious if THAT is NOT your calling, Be Spiritual... a spiritual person is Kind, Benevolent and Harmonious to people, their friends, their loved ones and their family... Against such a person there is no law.

Do what your heart tells you, don't let people's guilt-trips trap and corner you into entering a faith you have no intention of embracing... thats what cults do....

Be well, be happy and just be yourself as you see fit

I don't know how old you two are. If you are adults, your friend shouldn't be angry at you for not believing. That's childish. The two of you can still have a friendship. I am Catholic and dated an atheist when I was 15-16. Nicest guy ever! We have the greatest talks and we respected each other and we knew my faith was important to me and I knew that he just wasn't at a point in his life that having God in his life was all that important. He is a Christian now I've heard. (20 yr later) You should let your friend calm down for a few days and call her and directly ask her why she is angry. And be polite but be free to discuss it. If it's a touchey topic for her, then you can't be friends. To some people, they can't be close to atheists because God is #1 in their lives and always comes up in conversations. If the atheists don't like God's name and laws turning up all the time, this is going to put a strain on your relationship. It sounds rude but it's the truth.

I dont believe that you are wrong in the sense that you are a horrible person and dont deserve talking to. I am religious, personally, and I dont think it was a very mature thing of your friend to do to stop talking to you just because you hold a different set of beliefs. How can you share your religion with others if you are only around like-minded people?

In the sense of, are you "right" that there is no God, no one here knows. It's something we all risk and will find out after we die.

Of course it isn't wrong. Every American has the right to believe whatever he/she wishes (or not). Religious Freedom was the MOST important thing to our Founding Fathers - so important that it is the VERY FIRST phrase in the VERY FIRST Amendment to the Constitution.

If she doesn't respect your right to believe differently, then she is NOT a good friend. If she worships a God who drowned, sickened, and slaughtered millions, she is probably not a good influence, either.

Don't get upset with your friend for being mad. She has her beliefs and you have your own. As we get older, some of our beliefs change as we gain knowledge, and experience. Don't get mad though, that never solves anything. It's not wrong to have no religion or belief in God, but it is not the most popular belief.

Well, Jesus hung out with sinners and such. Your friend should still hang out with you. However, it is wrong to not believe in God because then you'll go to Hell, to be honest. The devil would love for you to be blinded by lies because the truth is what sets free and what could save you from eternal seperation from your loving Creator.

No, you are not wrong. Your friend(?) thinks you are wrong because that is what her religion taught her. Judging from her reaction, she may also have been taught that non-believers are a threat to her. (Nothing has changed except what she knows about you, so i don't know how that works.) It's a reflection on her, not you.

I don't judge others, and if your "friend" was a real friend, she wouldn't either. If she really believes in God, then she knows that He is the only one fit to be a judge.

Nope, you are quite normal, and in very good company.

Some people can be a bit weird. Perhaps she'll get over it in time.
