I had mono a month or so ago, got relatively better, than got really sick again. I was diagnosed with bronchitis this time but can't help thinking it's something different; possibly worse. I have a constant fever, bad cough, incredible fatigue and joint aches. The most alarming symptom is a dull pressing pain in the middle of my chest or sternum. It's not excrutiating, but it is still somewhat painful. I've also had bad stomach cramps since being sick the second time. I know its impossible to diagnose without seeing someone, but any ideas off the top of your head?

its hard to say. mono is an immune issue, therefore it just takes longer to heal from these things. another immune disease that comes to my mind because you mentioned your lungs.......is lupus. you really should see a doctor. it could just be that it takes a long time, 6 months or more to totally recover from mono. stomach cramps? are you taking an antibiotic? they cause stomach cramps sometimes. see your doctor again and voice your concerns. and remember to use your common sense. just because a person is a doctor dont make him/her a good or caring one. if you dont like what they say or it doesnt make good common sense to you, get another doctor. remember, this is your body, your life and in essence the doctor is working for you. you pay him for a service and if you dont like the service, go elsewhere. in the meantime, go to web md and see what you can find out there about whats going on with you until you get to your doctor. good luck and feel better soon.

It usually takes about a year to fully recover from mono depending how seriously you had it. Mono is an autoimmune disease so your immune system is extremely run down after you've had it. You need to be careful about getting enough sleep and eating well Taking some good multi vitamins isn't a bad idea as well. No medications help mono so you have to get your body built up and good nutrition is the best way. Worrying runs you down even more. Talk to your doctor about the symptoms that are bothering you and see if there really is anything to be worried about but I'd bet it's the mono that just has you more susceptible to whatever is going around.

Take care of yourself!

Hi Paul. I am no expert on Mono., but I think your symptoms could be a part of that process. However, I do have one additional thought - have you had any recent dental work? such as a tooth extraction or root canal? These can cause low-grade, asymptomatic infections that spread toxins and/or bacteria throughout the body. If you have had recent dental work (that preceded your symptoms) you may want to consult with a 'biological dentist' to rule out this possibility and treat it if it is present.

Best wishes and good luck.

You may be having complications from the antibiotics that were given to you to treat the mono. Antibiotics can affect your kidney, liver and pancreas, causing swelling and cramping. This is not a good thing, please see your doctor.

The chest (lower) pain could be splenic pain from the mononucleosis, but it could be potentially something more serious. Please go and see a doctor and have a complete check up including blood count.
