Maybe it's just me, but I've always thought that stealing something that says "Thou shalt not steal" in it was a near paradoxical irony. You'd probably end up reading your stolen motel bible, get to Exodus 20, mumble under your breath "Ah crap," and have to drive all the way back the the motel where you got it from. It's just not worth the hassle.

The hotel bibles are provided by an organization called the Gideons. They would be delighted if you took one of their bibles. The whole idea is for you to take it and use it. They will gladly replace the one you took. Gideons take donations for those bibles and they are paid for as a gift to you. They have many stories of people who took the bible from the drawer when they were down and out in some fleabag hotel. They read it and something in them changed. they became new people and now are successful businessmen or something, and now donate money to the same organization that helped change their lives. I don't think that was your question but just thought you should know.

Unless you asked hotel management for the Bible it would be stealing and therefore a sin....against God, not Christianity. If somebody wants a Bible and can't afford to buy one you could go to most any church and ask for one....I'm sure they'd be happy to give you one for free. Or if you know someone who is a member of the Gideons (they provide the hotel Bibles) they would also give you one.

well, stealing is a sin. but i don't think the hotel pays for those bibles,so is it still stealing? I don't know. People give away free bibles all the time by the way...you don't need to buy one.

If it says interior the conceal of the bible which you will take it in case you pick then it particularly is no longer stealing. If it would not say that then it is stealing. Stealing is a sin, and that i'm particular which you already be attentive to that.

I believe that the Gideons would be very happy for you to take a Bible from a hotel room if you need one. If it makes you feel better, however, why not inquire at the front desk and find out what their policy is on this. They may have extras there to give away. May God bless all your efforts to draw close to him.

It is a sin to steal anything. The Gideons hand those bibles out. You should find them and they will give you a bible for free.

I don't know how much clearer the commandment "You shall not steal" could be. Anyway a lot of churches and other organizations give out free bibles if you are that poor, and you can find them cheap (like a dollar at the dollar store) anywhere else.

If its a Gideon Bible I doubt that anyone would mind if you took it. The Gideons donate those Bibles and if you would really like the Bible I suggest you take it and read it. Even better believe it. Who knows perhaps you can repay the favour one day.

I believe that stealing is a sin no matter what you take. Most people would consider it far worse to steal God's word of course, but stealing is stealing.
