I would like to wrap a bow around the reception chairs to dress it up a little. I got tulle but I'm finding it very hard to work with as far as tying pretty bows. Does anyone know any websites or have any ideas for cool chair decorations? Wedding is informal and I'm looking for something unordinary.

Instead of trying to tie the tulle in a bow you can try to make the 2 sides of the bow, put a piece of wire in the middle, then take another piece of tulleto wrap around the center and wire it in the back. The outcome is still a bow, but you are not tying it-you are creating it! You can also drape the tulle IUI (like that). Hopefully you are working with the spool of tulle, and not a whole sheet of it!

You can always starch the tulle lightly and pack tissue paper in the bows until they dry, that should hold the bow in place. Then just remove the tissue paper before the wedding. Also try large bolts of a pretty material cut un 3'-5' lenghts (depending on the chair size, You could also use premade large scarfs), and add beads or fringe to the ends and drape across the chairs for an informal but touch of elegance look. An iridescent material is classy if you use lighter colored bead work.

marthastewart.com has some bowtying info on there. Tulle does not like being made to make tight turns. You can look into getting another type of material and using the tulle for covering tables or walls with icicle lights under the tulle for a twinkle effect.
If you want funky, you can slip old t-shirts on the backs of chairs, especially if you have a sizable shirt collection. If you get shirts printed up, they can become party favors.

We tied tulle around chairs at daughter's wedding and it looked great. Allow enough to make it work into a decent sized bow.

Skip the tulle and go with raffia. It comes in lots of pretty colors and is relatively inexpensive. Gather bits of greenery from bushes...even boxwoods. Include some fresh rosemary which smells So good and maybe some basil leaves which you can save for later to sprinkle over fresh tomatoes with olive oil. Put the fresh rosemary on hot crusty bread baked in a 425 degree oven. First drizzle it with olive oil, Your groom will go crazy!! Buy a cheap bouquet of fresh flowers at the grocery store and stick a pretty blossom or two in each arrangement. Wait! Pansies are edible!! There you go; just don't eat the boxwoods! Happy wedding! Happy life!

Very fine weaved tulle is a nightmare..it just sort of wants to flop. If you want to use tulle, go to the fabric store and find a stiffer feeling weave, and try it out. The stiffer stuff is usually cheaper too.
