He does not understand that it is too hard for me to stay with him if he is out risking his life. What are some reasons to tell him? I just know it would break my heart every day to know that he could potentially be called up to go out and fight.

Just tell him. why string him on and on. If you are not strong enough to stand by his side then hit the bricks. let him make his choice and if it's the military then step aside, wish him luck and say good-bye. the last thing he needs is a distraction from home interfering with his training. truth be told he's probably better off without you or the drama that comes from one that won't support his decision on his future. whether it's the military, college or the Disneyland academy. if you don't believe in his cause then you don't believe in him. I would give this advice to a man as well as a woman, so don't think it's personal.

Well if you want to leave your b/f for such a selfish reason then you don't deserve him. If you found yourself in the same position would you want him to leave you? You ask this question as if he has done something wrong to you. If he went away to Harvard and started messing with some frat chic would that be better for you? You either support your man or gather up the courage (if you can) and let him go. Make sure you explain it is because you are too selfish to support his decision luv. Break up with him now and don't be like some of the other women that wait for the guy to leave and start banging the Starbucks cashier. Good luck.
