you are not doing your kid or you any favors by avoiding prescription drugs for him. it can be difficult to find the one that works for him. these drugs allow for him to slow down so that he can concentrate a little better at home and at school. you want him to be able to learn right? they help them stay focused.
he needs to be very active to burn that extra energy from himself too so that he can sleep better, they need to literally play themselves out. sleeping properly is important for learning too.
you will be able to cope better too if he's not wearing you out as much. trust me, the drugs aren't all that bad! and you also need time outs...you need to take good care of yourself too to be able to care for your son with the patience you need. good luck!

let him go wild and play for awhile, then explain he has to come in and study some before he can go back out to play more.

most of the time its not ADD or ADHD, its just rowdy, rambunctious boys being boys.

Caffeine actually helps ADHD kids, so if he drinks pop/soda, let him have the caffeinated variety or try regualr tea if you want to avoid the sugar. Many ADHD folks with mild symptoms self-medicate with caffeine.

Gluten free diets have been clinically proven to show marked improvement in ADHD (and others) kids.
