Eukanuba - Feed the Breed

2007-03-09 01:44:38 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 2

you want to stay away from foods that have a lot of by-products like IAMS, Eukanuba, PEDIGREE. So many people will tell you to get pedigree...ya wanna know why?? Because its the cheapest food out there, but it has cheapened it ingredients a whopping 5x in the last 4 yrs.

I generally go for the holistic foods that arent mass produced (you wont find these in WalMart)
Innova
Canidae
Canine Caviar
AvoDerm
Solid Gold

There is no one brand that is suitable for all dogs since it depends on their age, breed, and size. One major guideline is to read the ingredients and compare. The first ingredient should not be corn meal or other carbs, but should be a protein source such as beef or chicken. Dogs are carnivores, which means that their nutritional needs are met by eating a diet high in meats. Corn, rice, etc. are good fibers to keep a dog from overeating, but the major part of the dog's food should still be meat, not fiber content.

I have fed Nutro, California Natural, Merrick, Innova, Wellness, Wysong, and Prairie. I look for low grain content, little to no corn, and of course no suspicious "animal byproduct" ingredients. I would stay away from Pedigree, Eukanuba, Purina, and Iams. These companies have huge advertising budgets and their food is quite substandard.

Depending on breed, I'd feed Natural Balance, Nutro, or Natural Choice.

Iams or Eukanuba. 100% I'm a Vet Assistant and Dog Breeder. Also, I only use the food for puppies. Even for my 12 yr old poodle.

I have had good experiences with Candidae and Timberwolf. I would avoid anything like Iams, they are known to conduct cruel tests on dogs.

i use lamb meal and rice from science diet it is usually on sale at my local pet store so its not really all that expensive and though i have a large dog she wont eat it unless its small bites so so i get the little ones it is supposed to be one of the best most well rounded foods out there with more meat and less fillers that are not easily digested by dogs

My vet suggested the Science Diet but it was too expensive so I switched to Pedigree.
