First off, you need to figure out how many calories you are currently consuming. Write down everything you eat and drink. EVERYTHING. Then you need to figure out if you are eating when you are hungry, or if you eat when you are bored, depressed, etc. Once you do this, then you need to go through your pantry and refrigerator, and get rid of anything that is refined or processed. I am not saying that you can never have those again, but if you have them around, they are triggers, and will make you binge. Next, you need to bring in healthy snacks and foods. Think fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and poultry, fish, low-fat dairy, and of course, water. If you have a hard time sticking to a diet (this is now called a lifestyle change), try to change one thing a week. Make small changes. Don't be drastic, and don't think of this as a diet. You are wanting to become healthier, and eating the processed crap, and refined sugars will not make you healthy. That stuff is full of chemicals and unnatural stuff that your body does not need. Your body needs things that are as close to nature as you can get. Think fruits and vegetables.
Next you want to take stock of your activity level. How active are you? Do you get any exercise, or are you a couch potato? There is nothing wrong with admitting you are a couch potato, admitting to it, means you know you have a problem, and now you are ready to make some changes.
You want to aim for about 30 minutes of exercise a day, at the least. If I were you, for right now, keep your heart rate at 65% of maximum. No higher. To get that number, take 220 - age, and multiply that by .65 That is where you want your heart rate to be while you exercise. If you have the money, invest in a heart rate monitor. Polar is the best and most compatible with exercise equipment. Figure out what activity you enjoy doing the most and do it. Whether it's swimming, walking, elliptical, bicycle, whatever. Just get moving. You need to make sure that the calories you are burning are more than the calories you are consuming.
Try to find a support group of people that can help you with your journey. Keep a journal, and write down everyday how you are feeling. Instead of turning to food from now on, write in that, and find a hobby. Food will never comfort you. You only think it does.
Remember there will be some bumps along the way, but if you set your mind to it, you will be successful! Even if you fall off the wagon, get right back on. We all have pitfalls, but do not give up just because you may have consumed too much one day, or you forgot to exercise (or didn't want to). Don't beat yourself up. Forgive yourself and move on.
Good luck, and keep on striving towards your goal. You will do it if your heart and mind want it.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

You should really try weight watchers. I have a goal weight of 150 pounds. I started at 201 and today I weighed in at 177. I have only been on the plan for a month and a half. I'm so pleased with my results because I'm not starving myself. I run a mile and a half 4x a week and lift weights three times a week. You can eat pretty much whatever you want so long as you measure it and count your points. I highly reccommend the plan. I've tried South Beach, Atkins, Glycemic Index and none of them worked. Check out the weight watchers website. I joined with a friend which makes it so much easier. Good luck!

It all depends on why your that heavy to began with? Is it because of a medical a reason or due to a reaction to mediation? What are limitation? I get join pain from impact (running, jogging, step classes) so I walk if I have to but what I enjoy most is water work outs or biking with son in tow. I would suggest talking to Doc about seeing neutralist on how to eat healthy (FYI eating healthy not mean flavorless or eating cardboard). When I saw mine in a few years back she suggested a book called Sugar Buster. I think it's great but I was throwing high blood sugars at time and also have a family history of Diabetes. When I started I was 225 and am now 145 but that is about 2 years later. I have not lost any weight in pass 6 months but I happy with the way I look and I have not gained any back either. You to life style change there is no magic diet or pill that will make you thinner. If you'd like e-mail me. It always good to have someone support you efforts to healthy life style. Good luck and many hugs.

The best way is the old fashioned way. No fad diets, no pills etc..

but, a good healthy nutritional diet..making sure you fill up on fruits and veggies..and having lots of proteins. Use only a bit of oils and fats..your body does need it..and make sure you drink at ;least 8 cups of water a day. Do not deny yourself your favourite treats..but have them in small ..like a few bitefuls..or have one day as eat what you want day.

Add to that, exercise of some sort..whether it is dancing around in your home..going for walks..doing sports..mixing a bunch of activities each day so you don't get bored..and add at first..2 days a week of weights..(that is what will build your muscles so you burn more calories..but don't worry..you won't turn into a bulky weight lifter!)..GO to the library, and take out a book or 2 on weights and exercises to make sure you are doing them properly..or find on of the million of sites available on line.
patiences..dedications..and thinking of this as a life style to healthy new you..instead of loosing weight..is key to your road to a healthier you..
enjoy your new energy..and great sense of confidence you will gain with all this!

The answer to your question really depends on the person as it is different for everyone. Some people can lose weight real well thru more controlled eating patterns such as low fat/low calorie- example is Weight Watchers. Others it may be easier to do Atkins or South Beach Diet by lowering your amount of bad carbohydrates you consume. If you try a low fat/low calorie program like Weight Watchers, you will have alot more choices of food to eat which may make it easier for you to stick with it, however with other programs such as Atkins and South Beach Diet, you are much more limited to the types of food you can consume.
I have a very good friend of mine that lost a lot of weight on Atkins but gained most of it back due to stress later on and has had a hard time fighting it back off. She is now doing Weight Watchers and has lost 28 pounds in 9 weeks, it is alot easier for her to stay motivated in the Weight Watchers program. She still has over a hundred pounds to go but is doing really well and my mom has also lost over 75 pounds on Weight Watchers.

First of all, good job by asking questions...The best, and only way to lose weight is by burning more calories than you take in...To burn calories, the best thing to do is cardio of some kind, you could run, but running is bad for your joints if you are a little over weight, so i would start with walking...first of all you burn very close to the same amount of calories walking a mile as you do running a mile, it just takes more time....so, walk a mile, then increase your time/milage every week or two...in terms of calories, try to re-manage your day...that is, eat healthy, lower-cal, meals about 6 times per day....not 6 big meals, but 5-6 healthy lower cal meals....I have lots of advise to give, im a strength coach, feel free to contact me, tim@athleticedge.net....you are well within reach of your goal, keep your head up and stay focused, Tim.

I suggest that you try body cleansing. I tried it and really got lean quickly. I lost 15 pounds in 9 days and also 3 inches off my waist. I do body sculpting so getting leaner was my goal. My sister did this program too and she lost a lot of weight quickly. I did not know too much about cleansing but there are a lot of TV commercials about this stuff. This is a body cleanse and not just a colon cleanse, I wanted my body to get lean quickly and this did the trick!
