Six to eight weeks is normal. After that, definitely say something to you doctor.

What??? Six to eight weeks? (That's what the first responder said!!! -- Yikes!!) I only bled for 2-3 weeks tops! How dreaded the thought of bleeding for 6-8 weeks solid!

Now really, I think this is your body getting back on target. It does sound like this is the start of your periods again. It normally will go from a week to 10 days. That's about the norm. If you are experiencing it any longer than that, call your OB and question them on it. I'm sure they'll help you feel at ease.... not like some of these responders.

Are you nursing???

It's common to bleed after birth for about 6 weeks, so I don't think this is a real period, just still cleaning the uterus out. Call your doctor/nurse and ask them if you are still worried.

It's different for everyone, and is affected by different things like breastfeeding. I got my first period after the birth of my son when he was 5.5 months old, and I breastfed.

It's usually 6 weeks long or so, which is why your ob/gyn probably told you to schedule your next check up about 6 weeks after your delivery. This is one of those things that it would have been nice to know before you had your baby, huh? :)
