You know, I've heard this question a few times and I would have to say no. First of all, whether you love him or hate him, he was the greatest Nascar racer of all time. Secondly, I'm sure Teresa will not let him be forgotten by taking his name out of the market, he was as we know, Mr. "D.E.I". And finally, you can still go to toy isles in retail stores and find Richard Petty merchandise. I'm sure we will be seeing Dale Earnhardt Sr and the number 3 for many, many, many more years to come

Absolutely not. Theresa Earnhardt has a gold mine in Sr merchandise. Dale Sr merchandise is #1 (or is it number 2 behind Jr?) in sales above all current drivers. As long as fans are interested, they will be selling it.

They may change the items sold from year to year, but #3 stuff will not just go away altogether!

As far as I can tell, I have not heard any such thing happening with merchandise for the late "Intimidator". Besides, as long as Richard Childress continues to shell out the green to NASCAR to hold onto the rights to use the #3 the merchandising machine for Dale Sr. will continue on. At least until Childress either sells the team or passes on, Dale Jr. starts to pay NASCAR for the rights to the #3, or Dale Jr. decides to drive for Childress.

Dale Sr #3 merchandise will never go into "retirement" as there are still thousands upon thousands of Dale Sr fans out there who still purchase the merchandise that bears his name.

As long as there is money to be made they will still sell the product. Theresa won't discontinue the merchandise (and she would be the one who could) as long as it is profitable. NASCAR likes the cut they get as well (for the officially licenses merchandise at least). Childress would have no say (as someone else answered) because his ownership of the number 3 lapsed at the beginning of 2003.

No, it will be sold as long as Teresa can make a dollar on it. I am certain that Richard Childress also gets a cut on this, as he owns the #3. I am not sure where you heard that they would retire the 3. That is RCRs decision, not DEIs.

Yeah I think this is the last year. DEI is tired of making so much money on #3 racing apparel. I think they are going to start selling Boris Said stuff now. Great question!

They still sell Richard Petty merchandise so I doubt that Sr. stuff will ever go away

Nope...they will sell his stuff forever. As long as people are spending hard earned money on it someone will sell it. "Oh look that turd I just laid is shaped like a #3...I'll sell it on ebay." Dale Sr. will end up like M.A.S.H. or Elvis, dead but still making money. (That is if he is really dead.)
