I am planning on getting married in a church. I was raised catholic and my fiancee was raised methodist. What type of church can we get married in? And with that, a good friend of the family is a catholic decon and I really want him to marry us. Will the other churches allow for him to marry us in their church?

+ Deacons +

Yes, deacon can bless marriages.

Deacons assist the bishop and priests in the celebration of the Eucharist, in the distribution of Holy Communion, in assisting at and blessing marriages, in the proclamation of the Gospel and preaching, in presiding over funerals, and in dedicating themselves to the various ministries of charity.

+ Marriage to Non-Catholics +

The Catholic Church allows marriage between Catholics and non-Catholics.

Because the Church recognizes the tremendous challenge that the interfaith couple will face, they may have to get permission from the bishop.

Yes, a Catholic Deacon can perform a marriage ceremony. If you choose to get married in a Catholic church, you need to check with your parish priest as to what would be involved. Some allow another minister from another faith to be involved in the ceremony, but it depends upon the circumstances. If you do get married in the Catholic church, your man has to agree to raise the children Catholic, and you will have to do premarital counselling.
As for if you are doing it the other way, wanting to get married in his church, you would still have to do all the checking with his minister.
Most of all, make sure it is clear between you and he in what faith you will be raising your children!

You don't have to both be catholic to get married in the Catholic church. Your fiance just has to agree that the kids will be raised catholic. As for being married by a deacon, I'm pretty sure he is able to do it. You might not be able to have communion, though, unless a priest is there since deacons can't consecrate the bread and wine into Jesus' body and blood. Just ask your deacon, he will know for sure.
