A girl just asked a question re: abortion and taking the pill. As a furtherance of that, I am just wondering if it is a sin to take the morning-after pill. Is this murder in the sense that abortion by a doctor is a sin? Please explain. Thanks.

Note: I am not considering the morning-after pill. It's just a question.

Secondly, I did look at some information about it and the issue was that some people are in disagreement about whether it works before or after contraception. If you look at this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_contraception, it explains what I mean.

personally, i don't believe it is. the morning after pill simply prevents anything from happening. conception can occur up to 72 hours after sex. conception being the union of the sperm and the egg. and then, implantation after that. so its most likely that when you take the pill conception hasn't occurred, and if it has, its likely implantation hasn't. the morning after pill basically just makes you shed your uterine lining the same way you would during a period..

Hello. I believe it would be a sin to take it since it's going to have the same effect essentially. Life happens at conception, not later on as once it's born. So killing a life sooner than later is still killing a life. Morning after pills and abortions would mostly would not be needed if people would abstain from fornication... if I can be real with you. God still loves you and that person, but it is a sin because is the giver of life...even when it's done out of wedlock.

Does the morning after pill prevent egg and sperm from creating another life? Or does it prevent an already created life from growing any further. Think about it.

If you don't know the answer to my question above then maybe you should do some research and talk to your physician if you are considering the morning after pill as a method of birth control.

Taking the Morning After pill is indeed an abortifacient. In both cases; when there is no conception, as a prevention of pregnancy or when conception does occur, which is again..preventing the continuing onset of pregnancy. To prevent life at any time is a sin. To do this is interfering with God and His will and plan for your life...not your will and your plans...

How long does it take to actually concieve? It takes more than a few minutes. I think that if you take the morning after pill BEFORE conception some will view this the same as taking the pill, if taken after conception the may be viewed as abortion

Abortion and the Morning-After pill depend on the conscience of the woman in question. When does a fetus become an infant?

I'd have to do a little more research to give you a solid answer, but from what I understand the pill prevents fertilization. It's a contraceptive, not an abortifacient. So, unless your religion is against all forms of contraceptives, I'd say no.

According to the Catholic encyclical Humane Vitae, yes it is-as is the birth control pill and condoms. "Every single sexual act must by definition have the possibility of procreation"Paul VI

Most protestants would have no problem with contraception. Abortion is another manner; prevention and termination are two different things.

Nope. God COMMANDS his followers to kill people of ALL ages. The Bible even gives instructions on how to abort any pregnancy caused by adultery.

Numbers 5:12-31 (see your Bible for the entire thing)

" . . . If any man's wife go aside, and commit a trespass against him, And a man lie with her carnally, . . . and she be defiled, . . . . Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, . . . . And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water: . . . and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the curse . . . and say unto the woman, . . . . if thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband . . . . And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter. . . . . . And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot . . . . And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed . . . . ."

The purpose of the morning after pill is to KILL any human being who might have been conceived through the previous night's activities. Yes, killing an innocent human being is a sin.
