I'm going through a lot of pain & depression, & some people encourage me to let it out, & others tell me it's inappropriate & unacceptable, & they think I want attention or someone to pity me. How else can I vent out my feelings?

Go ahead an cry. It is healthy way of venting your pain. Just don't do it around the negative people. There is a time and place for venting. Some people vent emotions thru art or writing. Surround yourself with good friends who understand what you are going thru and support you. Take the time to cry it out of your system, then go do something fun and out of character (but legal). You may want to talk to your doctor about temporary medication to help get you thru this difficult time, also do not rule out therapy, It can be a great help. Therapy is not just for 'crazy' people. Above all, allow yourself to get thru this the way YOU need to, not the way others say you OUGHT to. This is about you, not them.

What you do in private is no ones business. So I would say if you are in conflict and need to release go to you room and have a good cry. Get it all out. If need be hit your pillow and scream. Just blow!! VENT!! What ever you want to call it. If you still feel you haven't gotten it all out yet go for a run. I mean a full fledged run. You can scream and cry while you are doing this also. I would say after all this it would be time to go to your room put on some soft music and take a well deserved nap. If the sun is shinning try to lay in the sun as this will re charge you. When you wake up think about the things you can change and the ways you can change them. The things you have no control over let go. There is nothing you can do. If you believe in a higher being this would be a good time to ask for help. Now go get something to eat and drink and get on with life.

It is perfectly ok to cry as I did a lot of it last week when I had to have my cat put down. If I did not cry I'm sure I would not be feeling a little better about it now........crying releases tension in your body. If you kept it inside without crying you would be much worse.

On the other hand if you cry most of the time then it can be due to the depression and you need to see and doctor and have it treated.

Without knowing the situation I will tell you it's good to cry. It cleanses the soul. If you're crying when others AREN'T around you, I'd think that's a pretty good indicator you aren't doing it for attention or pity. But if this goes on much longer...see your family Dr. Good Luck!!!!

IMHO, God created us with Tear Ducts for a reason. They are there to release tears when we are in pain, not just physical, but any kind. Furthermore, I can't remember myself or anyone close enough to me, to have shared their tears with me, say that they've "felt worse", after crying. I'm sure if you did some research in psychology and health psychology, you'd find information to support this scientifically!!! But, once again, I'd simply go by the level of relief I felt from the physical release of tears!

Crying releases stress hormones from your brain. It's a natural part of healing from pain. Go ahead and cry, and when you're done, do something uplifting to reconnect with the positive things in life.

It's healthy to cry. It releases endorphins in your body and helps you feel better for a while. When I'm trying to avoid crying I sometimes journal or go for a really long walk or distract myself with music or something.
