Both ibuprofen and acetaminophen are NSAIDs ( Non Sterodial Anti Inflamatory Drugs) both act in similar fashion but ibupofen works much deeper but it is more harmful to the stomach mucous layer and causes ulcer. Acetaminophen is better to the stomach as this causes ulcer to a lesser degree but once again prolonged use of this could damage the kidneys. In short all these NSAIDs should be taken for a short term duration only and if the pain continues then only a doctor / specialist has to be consulted and tackle the problem.

Ibuprofen is a slightly better analgesic. They both work equally well as antipyretics. When used on a regular basis for weeks, ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory properties that acetaminophen lacks. This is good for people with, say, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis but not so important for osteoarthritis or simple sports injuries, and the mechanism that causes this good effect also has a downside in a small risk of gastric bleeding. There are a few thousand people who die every year from this bleeding, but considering the ubiquity of the drug, it's not a big problem

Tylenol is a pain reliever and fever reducer. It shouldn't be taken by anyone who drinks several alcoholic drinks a day because it can cause problems with their liver.
Ibuprofen is an anti-inflamatory which is better at easing sore muscles, sinus pain, female cramps and even more complicated causes of pain by calming the inflamation. It will also reduce fever. The caution with Ibuprofen is that if taken over a long period of time for undiagnosed pain, it can hide serious illness because it works so effectively.

fyi - acetaminophen is toxic to cats by causing liver failure, ibuprofen is toxic to dogs. I'm sure the question isn't regarding your pets but don't give pain relievers to our furred friends because they can't tolerate what we can.
