I would think about what he really liked to do and get something based off of that. I would think on your back or shoulder would be a good place. Closer to your heart. Kind of like he's got your back. On your ankle, you are almost stepping on it.

I have been planning to get a tatoo in memory of my dad too. He passed away a year ago. I've put a lot of thought into it and I think a cross with a ribbon wrapped around it with your fathers name on it is a good idea. That type of tatoo is unisexed too its not too feminine or too masculine. If you are a woman I've also thought a heart with angel wings and a halo with my fathers name in the middle would be nice too. If I was to do that I was planning on getting it between my shoulder blades on my upper back so the angel wings would be spreading out between the shoulder blades. Just make sure that you are really satisfied with your decision because you will be stuck with it forever.

as far as what you should get....you know your dad and we don't...think about what it is that will remind you of him....something he liked or even something as simple as his name and or the dates of his birth and death. That is between you and your memories.
As far as where...that I can help a bit with. I got 3 tats in my late teens and early 20s. One thing I really really really regret is not spending a little more time deciding where I want them to go....and believe me, in my opinion I made at least 2 big mistakes in location. The best advise I can give you is to think a little into the future...are you always going to want to have a very visible tat or not. 2 of my tattoos are very visible in sleeveless dresses which is unfortunate because I love to wear dresses but I usually don't want to look like a Sailor in a girls dress.....
Good Luck

all depends are you a guy or a girl if you are a girl then the ankle is good, as for what, was he in the armed forces if so then you could use their emblem, if not then how about something that was special between you two, did you ever do anything special together, something that is very meaning ful to you.

I got a black and white portrait of my father, and I do not regret it one bit. It is on my bicep area which I know is kind of a guy thing, but when I miss him, I look at my arm. Everyone who has seen it says it is the coolest and neatest tattoo they have ever seen. By the way I also have "Daddy" underneath him. I love my tattoo.

around your ankle...a rosary...no one can really tell you since it is a memorial for your father...when you think of him what comes to mind, what were his hobbies, what did the two of you do together...these are the questions u need to ask yourself...one feminine idea is to get the birth flower of your father...i got the birth flower of myself, my dad and my mom on my back! best of luck and sorry for your loss

WELL SOME IDEAS WOULD BE THINGS YOUR DAD LIKED. MY MOM PASSED AND I GOT MY UPPER RIGHT ARM TATTOED WITH HER NAME AT THE TOP AND A DOVE FLYING, AND UNDERNEATH HER NAME A CROSS, AND AT THE BASE OF THE CROSS ARE RED ROSES. ALL THINGS SHE LIKED IN LIFE. IT'S A LARGE TATTOO BUT IT REPRESENTS MY MOM AND I AM DAMN PROUD TO HAVE IT!! SO JUST THINK ABOUT IT AND YOU WILL PROBLY THINK OF SOMETHING REALLY NICE, EVERYONES DIFFERENT.

get something that reminds you of him specifically. don't think "memorial tattoo" think about what brings fond memories of your dad. those are the most special tattoos. for instance if my dad died i would get a book because he is such a book worm. it would be something that would remind me of his life and something that he loved.

Something small and tasteful, in a not too conspicuous place. What about an Egyptian hieroglyphic for "Father", or a symbol of love, or even his initials.
