my mom's had it for a few years, and hers is getting increasingly worse, she can't walk and can barely hold a spoon and stuff. she also has trouble talking, but i was wondering does it also affect how they think? because she does NOT make sense alot of the time and thinks she does. plus she gets very stubborn about things like her drink. she will continuosly choke on a glass of water, yet she will refuse to leave it unfinished and asks for another...it makes my dad go crazy sometimes...and i was wondering if this is somehow connected?

It does. But in a weird way. An MS person knows what they want to do or say, but the neurons don't connect anymore, and it's very frustrating for them, not just the people who are taking care of them. They're trying to the best of their ability to be "normal" and it just doesn't work anymore. It is truly sad. It's like wanting to say in your brain "Let's play Monopoly" and it comes out as "Where's the play?" Or putting a glass down on the table, but missing the table. It's horribly frustrating because their brain KNOWS they're messing up but can't help it.

Please be as patient as you can with her. It's a horrible disease. I know, I've been in stages of it since 1997.
